、NENTS BASIC TEST AND MEASUREMENT PROCEDURES Part 3-31: Examinations and measurements Coupled power ratio measurement for fibre optic sources 1 Scope This part of IEC 61300 describes the method to measure the coupled power ratio (CPR) coefficient. CPR measurements are used to characterise optical sou
、rces and to standardize the launch conditions for measurements of attenuation on multimode fibres and insertion loss according to IEC 61300-3-4. The CPR coefficient may be measured at both 850 nm and 1 300 nm wavelengths. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents are indispensable fo

、nnecting devices and passive components Basic test and measurement procedures Part 3-4: Examination and measurements Attenuation 3 General description The modal distribution launched into multimode fibre can vary widely with different light sources. This variation in launched modal distribution can
、result in significant differences in measured attenuation in the same object. CPR coefficient test method gives information about the launched modal distribution (LMD) condition in a measured object. The CPR coefficient test method is based on comparison of the difference in coupled power between mu
、ltimode and single mode fibres. The CPR measurement is easily made and gives quantitative, repeatable results. Page3 EN61300331:200361300-3-31 IEC:2003 4 4 Apparatus 4.1 Source (S) The preferred source parameters for multimode sources are given in IEC 61300-3-4: S3 for measurement on central wavelen
、gth 1 300 nm; S2 for measurement on central wavelength 850 nm. 4.2 Power meter (D) The preferred power meter parameters for multimode detectors type D1 are given in IEC 61300-3-4. 4.3 Test patchcords (TP) Two test patchcords (jumpers) are used: multimode test launch patchcord TLP and single mode tes
、t terminal patchcord TTP. They shall be equal to or longer than 2 m long and have coatings that strip cladding light. Patchcord connectors shall be of a type and style compatible with the output/input ports of the light source (S) and power meter (D). In addition, the type and style shall facilitate
、 patchcord matings. 4.3.1 Test launch patchcord (TLP) Test launch patchcord TLP shall contain multimode fibre of the same nominal core diameter and numerical aperture as the fibre in the fibre path to be tested (e.g. IEC 60793-1 Type A1a (50/125) or A1b (62,5/125) in either secondary coated or reinf
、orced cable format). Where single-mode grade connectors are chosen to terminate the patchcords, it is necessary to select the appropriate ferrule inside diameter. 4.3.2 Test terminal patchcord (TTP) Test terminal patchcord TTP shall contain IEC 60793-1 Type B1.1 single-mode fibre for tests on 1 300
、nm light sources and fibre which is single-moded at 850 nm for tests on 850 nm light sources. Suggested specifications for these fibres are: MFD = (9,0 1,0) m for 1 300 nm tests and MFD = (5,0 0,5) m for 850 nm. 4.3.3 Patchcord connectors (PC) The connectors on test patchcords TLP and TTP shall have
、 insertion loss (IL) lower than 0,5 dB in the relevant wavelength band ( = 1 300 nm and = 850 nm), as measured by IEC 61300-3-4 insertion method (B). Connectors which inhibit Fresnel reflections (e.g. physical contact (PC) style connectors) are preferable. 4.3.4 Reference adapter (RA) The reference

Deploy this patchcord in such a way as to minimize changes in
