25、 the inside diameter of fibre optic connector ferrules. 2 Normative references The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this International Standard. None. 3 Measurement methods for the inside diameter of fibre optic connector ferrules 3.1 Purpose The purpose of this procedure is to inspect and measure the inside diameter of the precision hole of

28、fibre optic connector ferrules. The precision hole aligns and positions the optical fibre inside the ferrule. The procedure described here uses the “GO“ and “NO-GO“ gauging technique. 3.2 General description The most commonly used inspection method for the inside diameter is the GO and NO-GO pin gau

29、ging technique. Due to the very small inside diameters of the connector ferrules for commonly used single mode and multimode ferrules, accurate direct measurement is difficult to achieve. One technique is the direct measurement of the inside diameter of a ferrule precision alignment hole. This can b

30、e carried out either by projecting the ferrule hole using a projection optical microscope or by using an imaging and digitizing system to measure the bore diameter. Thesr techniques tend to suffer from inaccuracy in determining the inside edges of a precision hole. Thus, the use of “pin gauges“ beca

31、me the most common method for determining the inside diameter of a ferrule manufactured to specified dimensional limits. 32、000 f-, NO-GO pin gauge tolerance field 3.3 The pin gauges shall be made from hard-wearing material, such as tungsten carbide, ruby or hard ceramic and shall be rigid. Inspection method: pin gauging technique 3.3.1 GO pin gauge: Gauging of ferrules (see figure 1) The diameter of the pin gauge shall

33、be equal to or larger than the lower limit of the specified inside diameter of the ferrule. It shall be capable of gauging the entire length of the hole. NO-GO pin gauge: The diameter of the pin gauge shall be equal to or larger than the upper limit of the specified diameter of the ferrule. 3.3.2 In

The environ- mental temperature shall be within limits determined by

35、 the tolerance of the measurement and the thermal expansion values of the pin gauge and the ferrule material under inspection. b) The pin gauges shall be kept free from contamination and shall be thoroughly cleaned before use. c) Measure the diameter of the pin gauge before inserting into the ferrul

36、es, using a suitably calibrated instrument having sufficient accuracy. d) The diameter of the pin gauges or the instrument used for their calibration shall be certified and periodically verified by an accredited laboratory. 37、oroughly clean the pin gauges before use, using alcohol and a lint-free tissue. b) Gently insert the GO pin gauge into the precision hole of the ferrule under inspection until the pin is fully inserted. c) When inserting the pin gauge into the ferrule hole, ensure that the axis of the pin gauge is i

38、n line with the axis of the ferrule, thus preventing angular misalignment of the pin gauge. d) When inserting a pin gauge into the ferrule hole, the ferrule can be gently rotated around the common axis (along the length of the ferrule). e) If the GO gauge fails to pass through the ferrule, the ferru

39、le is rejected. f) Gently attempt to insert the NO-GO pin gauge into the ferrule precision hole. g) If the NO-GO gauge enters the ferrule, the ferrule is rejected. 3.4 Details to be specified Upper and lower limits of the hole diameter. 41、 diameter of fibre optic connector ferrules 4.1 Purpose The purpose of these procedures is to inspect and measure the outside diameter of fibre optic connector ferrules. The procedures described here use the ring GO and NO-GO gauging technique or contact and non-contact micrometer and laser diameter

42、 measurement techniques. 4.2 General description One method used to inspect the diameter of fibre optic connector ferrules is the ring GO and NO-GO gauging technique. The ferrule diameter can also be measured directly by using other suitable techniques. Conformity of the outside diameter of fibre op

43、tic connector ferrules to the agreed dimensions and tolerances is necessary for proper performance. NO-GO ring gauge: The inside diameter of the ring gauge shall be equal to or larger than the lower limit of the specified outside diameter of the ferrule. 4.3.1.2 Inspection conditions
