26、erepresentinghardnessasafunctionofdistancefromthesurfaceofthetestpiece.Thisallowsa graphicaldeterminationofthecasedepth(methodA). Readingthecase-hardeningdepthfromthiscurveatthepointcorrespondingtoaspecifiedhardness,usually 550HV0,1. Byagreementbetweenthepartiesconcerned,anothervaluemaybespecified.I

27、nthiscase,thespecifiedvalueis distinguishedfromthestandardvaluebythesymbolHG(givenvalue). InthisInternationalStandardthesymbolHGisusedtomeanthespecifiedhardnesscorrespondingtothecase depth,consideringthat550HV0,1isaparticularvalueforit(itisthestandardone). ThebasicmethodAmaybesimplifiedforrapidspotc

28、hecking(methodB).InmethodB,thehardnessismeasured attwopointssituatedateithersideoftheapproximatecasedepth.Theaccuratecase-hardeningdepthisthen obtainedbyinterpolation. 5 Apparatus 5.1 VickersorKnoopmicro-hardnesstestingmachine,capableofapplyingapredeterminedloadof 0,9807N(HV0,1)toanaccuracyof 1%. 5.

29、2 Measuringinstrument,capableofmeasuringthediagonalsoftheindentationtoanaccuracyof0,5 m. 6 Procedure 6.1 General Micro-hardnessmeasurementsshallbemadeonasectionofthesinteredpiececutatrightanglestothesurfacein anareachosenbyagreementbetweensupplieranduser. ThetestshallbemadewithaVickersorKnoopdiamond

Thetestloadshallbe0,9807N(HV0,1). 6.2 Preparationofsample Thesurfaceonwhichthemeasurementistobemadeshallbepolishedtoasmoothnesssufficienttopermitcorrect measurementsofthemicro-hardnessindentation.Allprecautionsshallbetakentoavoiddamagetotheedgesof thespecimen,overheatingandchangesofthesurf

31、aceduetosmearingofthepores. NOTE Preparationofthesamplemaybefacilitatedbyimpregnationwithathermosettingplastic. Extraindentationsintheregionoftheapproximatecasedepthwillimproveaccuracyiftheresultisimprecisedue toasmallangleofintersectionbeweenthecurveandthehoriz
