Withsuitablesurfacesamplingtechniques,thetestisapplicabletosteelsurfacesbeforeandafter cleaning,aswellastopa

33、tectiontube 4.2.1Design Thedetectiontubeshallcompriseaborosilicateglasstube,140mmto150mminlengthand 2mmto3mminsidediameter,containing5%( m/m)analyticalreagentgradesilverchromate inasilicasandcarrier.Thesilicasandshallhaveaparticlesizerangefrom177 m mto 250 m m.Themixtureofsandandchromateshallberetai

34、nedinthetubebyplugsofcotton woolinbothendsandglasspowdercontrolmaterialbetweenthecarrierandtheplugs.Both endsoftheglasstubeshallbesealedbyfusingtheglass. NOTEIfthetubeisproperlydesigned,thecottonwoolwillnotbeburnt. 4.2.1Calibration Aftermakingabatchoftesttubes,breakoffbothendsofseveralofthemwiththeg

35、lasscutter (4.3)andimmerseoneendofatubeverticallyintoeachofvarioussolutionscontaining differentchlorideionconcentrations.Notethetopofthecolourchangeineachtubeandmark allthetubesinthebatchappropriatelytogiveeachascaleinmg/l. 38、ontrolledwashingproceduresavailablemaybeusedifdesired. Duringthewashingprocedure,ensure,bywearingcleanplasticorrubbergloves(4.8),thatthe washwaterisnotaccidentallycontaminated. Beforestartingthewashingprocedure,anareaofthesteelsurfacewhichhasbeenprepared forpaintingshallbeidentifiedbytheinterestedpa

39、rtiesassuitableforthetest.Markoutan actualtestareameasuring0,5mx0,5m,or0,25m 2 intotalarea,theshapedependingonthe sizeandshapeofthesteelsubstrate,usingthetapemeasure(4.10)andadhesivetape(4.9). Pour130mlofwater(4.1)intooneofthe250mlbeakersand20mlintothe100mlbeaker (see4.5).Soakthecottongauze(4.7)inth

40、ewaterinthelargerbeakerandsqueezesomeof thewateroutgentlybyhand.Astheglovesmustbewashedattheveryendofthewashing procedureusingonlyalimitedquantityofwater,usersareadvisedtoholdthegauzewiththe fingertipsonly.Thoroughlyswabthewholeofthetestareawiththegauze.Allowaslittle wateraspossibletodripfromthegauz

41、eortorunoffthetestarea.Removethewaterfromthe surfacewiththegauze,squeezingthewashingsintotheother250mlbeaker.Repeatthe swabbingprocedurefourtimes(i.e.foratotaloffivetimes),changingthedirectionofwiping eachtime. Oncompletionofthefifthswabbingprocedure,placethegauzeinthelargerbeaker.With greatcarerins

42、etheglovefingertipsinthewaterinthesmallbeakerandsubsequentlypourthis rinsewaterintothelargerbeaker.Mixthecontentsofthelargerbeakerbystirringwiththe glassstirringrod(4.6). NOTETheBreslemethodspecifiedinISO85026maybeusedforextractionofthe chlorideincombinationwithanalysisbytheiondetectiontubemethodift

43、hechloride surfacedensitytobedeterminedishigherthan100mg/m 2 (10 m g/cm 2 ). 5.2Determinationofthechlorideconcentrationinthetestsolution Cutbothendsofthedetectiontubewiththecutter(4.3).Immerseoneendoftubeinthetest solution.Holdthetubeverticallywiththeendatornearthebottomofthebeaker.Whenthe solutionreachesthetopplug,readoffthechlorideconcentrationinthetestsolution,inmg/1, fromthescale,asindicatedbyaslightchangeinthecolourwherethechromatehasreacted withthechlorideinthesolution. Ifthesolutionfailstoreachthetopofthetubewithin5min,discardthetube
