31、system and basis for specifications1Scope1.1 This part of ISO 9988 establishes a system of designation for polyoxymethylene (POM) thermoplasticmaterials, which may be used as the basis for specifications.Polyoxymethylene materials are thermoplastic materials composed principally of long-chain synthe
32、tichomopolymers and copolymers of formaldehyde. The repeating unit in the molecular chain is CH2O as anintegral part of the main polymer chain resulting from polymerization of formaldehyde.1.2 The types of polyoxymethylene plastic are differentiated from each other by a classification system basedon
33、 appropriate levels of the following designatory properties:a) melt mass-flow rate or melt volume-flow rate,b) tensile modulus,and on information about basic polymer parameters, intended application, method of processing, importantproperties, additives, colorants, fillers and reinforcing materials.1
34、.3 This part of ISO 9988 is applicable to all polyoxymethylene homopolymers and to copolymers ofpolyoxymethylene and blends of polymers containing polyoxymethylene.It applies to materials ready for normal use in the form of powder, granules or pellets and to materialsunmodified and modified by color
35、ants, additives, fillers, etc.1.4 It is not intended to imply that materials having the same designation necessarily give the sameperformance. This part of ISO 9988 does not provide engineering data, performance data or data on processingconditions which may be required to specify materials for part

39、es3 Designation and specification system3.1 GeneralThe designation and specification system for thermoplastics is based on the following standardized pattern:The designation consists of an optional description block, reading “Thermoplastics”, and an identity blockcomprising the International Standar
40、d number and an individual-item block. For unambiguous designation, theindividual-item block is subdivided into five data blocks comprising the following information: Data block 1: Identification of the plastic by its symbol POM in accordance with ISO 1043-1 andinformation about the polymerization p
41、rocess or composition of the polymer (see 3.2). Data block 2: Position 1: Intended application or method of processing (see 3.3). Positions 2 to 8: Important properties, additives and supplementary information (see 3.3). Data block 3: Designatory properties (see 3.4). Data block 4: Fillers or reinfo
42、rcing materials and their nominal content (see 3.5). Data block 5: For the purpose of specifications, a fifth data block may be added containing additionalinformation (see 3.6).The first character of the individual-item block shall be a hyphen. The data blocks shall be separated from eachother by co
43、mmas.If a data block is not used, this shall be indicated by doubling the separation sign, i.e. by two commas (,).3.2 Data block 1In this data block, after the hyphen, polyoxymethylene plastics are identified by the symbol “POM” inaccordance with ISO 1043-1, followed by a hyphen and the code-letter

The two code-numbers areseparated from each other by a hy
47、phen.If a property value falls on or near a range limit, the manufacturer shall state which range will designate thematerial. If subsequent individual test values lie on, or either side of, the range limit because of manufacturingtolerances, the designation is not affected.NOTE Not all combinations
