Introduction ThisEuropeanstandardshouldbeusedasareferenceinthedraftingofapplicationcodesand/orforotherapplication standards.Itmaybeusedwithinatotalqualitys

27、ystemfortheproductionofsatisfactoryweldedjoints.Itprovidesthree setsofdimensionalvaluesfromwhichaselectioncanbemadeforaparticularapplication.Thequalitylevelnecessary ineachcaseshouldbedefinedbytheapplicationstandardortheresponsibledesignerinconjunctionwiththe manufacturer,userand/orotherpartiesconce

28、rned.Thelevelshouldbeprescribedbeforethestartofproduction, preferablyattheinquiryororderstage.Forspecialpurposes,additionaldetailsmayneedtobeprescribed. Thequalitylevelsgiveninthisstandardareintendedtoprovidebasicreferencedataandarenotspecificallyrelatedto anyparticularapplication.Theyrefertoweldedj

31、hatforaparticularweldedjointthedimensionallimitsforimperfectionscouldallbe coveredbyspecifyingonequalitylevel.Insomecases,however,e.g.forcertaintypesofaluminiumoraluminiumalloys andstructuresaswellasforfatigueloadingorleaktightnessapplicationsitmaybenecessarytospecifydifferent qualitylevelsfordiffer

32、entimperfectionsinthesameweldedjointortoincludeadditionalrequirements. Thechoiceofqualitylevelforanyapplicationshouldtakeaccountofdesignconsiderations,subsequentprocessing, e.g.surfacing,modeofstressing(e.g.static,dynamic),serviceconditions(e.g.temperature,environment),and INESO91931:2(1002E) 4 cons

33、equencesoffailure.Economicfactorsarealsoimportantandshouldincludenotonlythecostofweldingbutalso thatofinspection,testandrepair. Althoughthisstandardincludestypesofimperfectionsrelevanttotheelectronandlaserbeamweldingprocesses,only thosewhichareapplicabletotheprocessandapplicationinquestionneedtobeco

34、nsidered. Imperfectionsarequotedintermsoftheiractualdimensions,andtheirdetectionandevaluationmayrequiretheuseof oneormoremethodsofnondestructivetesting.Thedetectionandsizingofimperfectionsisdependentonthe inspectionmethodsandtheextentoftestingspecifiedintheapplicationstandardorcontract. Thisstandard

35、doesnotincludedetailsofrecommendedmethodsofdetectionandsizingand,therefore,itneedstobe supplementedbyrequirementsforexamination,inspectionandtesting.Itshouldbeappreciatedthatmethodsofnon destructiveexaminationmaynotbeabletogivethedetection,characterisationandsizingnecessaryforusewithin certaintypeso

36、fimperfectionsshownintable2. Althoughthisstandardcoversmaterialthicknesses(penetrationdepths)from1mmandaboveforelectronandlaser beamwelding,itshouldbenotedthatthepermittedsizeforalltypesofimperfectionhasanabsolute,upperlimit. Applicationforthicknessesabove50mmforelectronbeamweldingand12mmforlaserbea

37、mweldingis,forthat reason,usuallysafe,butmaybeoverlyconservativeandmayrequirespecialprecautions,suchasweldbeaddressing inordertocomplywiththelimitsforreinforcementandundercut.Attentionshouldbepaidtosuchprecautionsduring approvaltestingoftheweldingprocedureandalternativerequirementsmayhavetobespecifi
