、 228:1993 Foreword This Interim European Telecommunication Standard (I-ETS) has been produced by the Transmission and Multiplexing (TM) Technical Committee of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). An ETSI standard may be given I-ETS status as it is regarded either as a provisio
、nal solution ahead of a more advanced standard, or because it is immature and requires a trial period. The life of an I-ETS is limited, at first, to three years after which it can be converted into a European Telecommunication Standard (ETS), have its life extended for a further two years, be replac
、ed by a new version of the I-ETS or, finally, be withdrawn. This I-ETS concerns the functional requirements for single-mode optical fibre to be used in cables for duct, directly buried and aerial cable applications. References are made to test methods and acceptance criteria in LETS 300 227 121 whic
、h are normative to this I-ETS (see Clause 2, “Normative references“). This I-ETS has been produced in accordance with a specialised agreement on “Work Repartition and Co-operation for Standardisation concerning fibre optics“ and is part of the CEN/CENELEC/ETSI co-operation agreement. The r
、equirements take into account ITU-T Recommendation G. 653 I 1 “Characteristics of a dispersion shifted single-mode optical fibre cable“. The functional requirements specified in this I-ETS refer to uncabled fibre. 2 Normative references This I-ETS incorporates by dated or undated references provisio
、ns from other publications. These normative references are cited at the appropriate places in the text and the publications are listed hereafter. For dated references, subsequent amendments to or revisions of any of these publications apply to this I-ETS only when incorporated in it by amendment or
、revision. For undated references the latest edition of the publication referred to applies. Il 121 ITU-T Recommendation G.653 (1 993): “Characteristics of dispersion shifted single-mode optical fibre cable“. I-ETS 300 227 (1 993): “Transmission and Multiplexing (TM); ITU-T Recommendation G.652-type
、single-mode optical fibre“. NOTE: References to test methods and acceptance criteria in certain ITU, CECC and IEC documents are made in I-ETS 300 227 121 which are also, therefore, normative to this I-ETS. 3 Definitions For the purposes of this I-ETS, the definitions provided in I-ETS 300 227 21, Cl

Certain tests are not required to be conducted on a routine basis and are identified as such in the relevant C
、lauses. The frequency of all tests shall be agreed between the user and the manufacturer under a capability approval procedure. Where reference is made under “Acceptance criteria“ to “no change in attenuation“ then this shall be taken as being s 0,05 dB. This specification is identical to I-ETS 300
