、l al!D Manufacturing Standards E LOW POWER EOUIPMRNT 1.0 GENERAL 1.1 SCOPE This Standard applies to all low power equipment, whether specifically mentioned or not within this Standard, rated at 3.0 KW or below. 1.2 APPLICATIONS 0 This Standard applies to electrical or electronic type equipment where

、 use is intended, either directly or indirectly, for production purposes. Typical examples are as follows :- Gauging, testing, motive and assembly units etc. used for any purposes related to production machines or building services. 1.3 EOUIPMRNT SUITABILITY All equipment selected shall be suitable

、for continuous use in an Industrial environment and shall satisfy the following requirements :- * Safe for personnel to use in accordance with Statutory Health and Safety legislation. * Robust and durable construction to ensure a trouble free long life without interruptions to production. * Equipmen

、t to be constructed from standard easily obtainable components to ensure ease and low cost of maintenance. * Provision of all necessary operating and maintenance instructions and spare parts lists. * Equipment must be suitable for the particular environment where it will be used, regard must be give

、 STATIC OR FIXED EOUIPMENT 2.2.1 Equipment intended for continuous use at one location, mounted on a bench, stand or bracket, shall be specified for operation on a 110 volt power supply. The power supply will be provided from a centre-tapped safety isolating transformer with an output voltage of + 5

、5 volts to earth potential. 2.2.2 Specialised equipment, Only available at operating voltages of 230 volts will only be permitted with additional safety precautions as folllows :- * No device with a required supply voltage higher than 110 volts shall be connected to a socket outlet. These shall be s

、upplied from a fused spur. ( The only exception to this will be the 23OV/llOV safety isolating transformer) * Means shall be provided to permanently fix the equipment in position. * Provision for conduit entry or a fixed cable shall be provided. Only screw terminals

、 will be accepted for this purpose. 2.2.3 In all cases where an electrical or electronic part of the equipment is held in the hand during operation, the voltage applied shall be no greater than 55 volts to earth potential. 2.3 POWER SUPPLY 2.3.1 A standard low power transformer unit as described in

、section 3, shall be supplied with the equipment. 2.3.2 All transformers shall be adequately sized to suit the equipment load. 2.3.3 Alternative power supply arrangements are limited to the following :- (a) Where a gauge is used for an operational inspection it is permitted for a 110 volt power suppl

、y to be connected from the related machine tool control panel transformer provided that the equipment rating does not exceed 12OVA and that the operation will not be adversely affected by electrical interference from the machine electrical circuit. Where a gauge is located more than two metres from

、the related machine a transformer unit shall be provided with the gauge. (b) For *purpose-built equipment eg. Leak test machine, assembly or ancilliary equipment etc. The control circuit shall operate at 24 volts dc. obtained from a safety isolating transformer and rectifier installed inside the equ
