SCOPE This standard describes Ford requirements for plugs and receptacles used for portable equipment, control circuits and safety gates. 2. 2

3、quivalent in all respects to material upon which approval was originally granted. Any deviations from this standard, without written notice and subsequent review, and re-approval by the Ford Manufacturing Standards - Electrical Subcommittee, shall be sufficient cause for removal from the Ford Manufa

4、cturing Standards Approved Source List. 2.3 Approvals All products submitted for evaluation shall be produced with normal production and quality control procedures. Prototype units shall not be tested. Approvals.shall be based on confor- mance to this standard as certified by the Supplier in writing

5、, required Agency approvals, and laboratory and performance tests where necessary. All documentation is subject to review of the Ford Manufacturing Standards - Electrical Subcommittee. All units shall be UL Listed and CSA Certified. 3. 3.1 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS MECHANICAL FORD MANUFACTURING STANDAE

6、DS EPl MARCH 1994 PLUGS AND RECEPTACLES EPl Page 2 3.1.2 The plug and receptacle shall be of weatherproof or waterproof construction as specified on the Equipment Data Form. 3.1.3 The plug shall be retained in the receptacle by a twisting action after full insertion is made, or by other approved pos

7、itive latching action. 3.1.4 The plug and receptacle shall provide an arc shield feature by incorporating a shell to surround all the plug pins and other current carrying parts. 3.1.5 The plug shall incorporate a cable strain relief to prevent cable conductors from separating from their termination

8、points. 3.1.6 The receptacle shall have a spring loaded protective cover that snaps closed when the plug is removed. 3.1.7 Plugs and receptacles used in safety gate applications shall meet the following additional requirement (and item 3.2.6): 3.1.7.1 The receptacle shall be permanently mounted to a

9、 statio- nary member when possible. The plug shall have a chain approximately 30 cm (12 in.)long attached between the plug and the movable member of the safety gate to prevent the gate from being opened without disconnecting the plug from the receptacle. The chain shall be straight link, case harden

10、ed, and have an environmentally compatible covering to provide corrosion protection. 3.2 ELECTRICAL 3.2.1 Plugs and receptacles for portable equipment shall be 2-pole, 3-wire grounding type for 120 VAC equipment; and 3-pole , 4-wire grounding type for 240 VAC or 480 VAC equipment. 3.2.2 3.2.3 3.2.4

11、3.2.5 All plugs and receptacles used in control circuits shall be rated for a maximum of 250 or 300 VAC. All poles shall, be polarized, or plugs keyed, to prevent improper connection. All exposed metal or conductive parts shall be grounded. Plugs and receptacles shall be non-interchangeable between

12、different voltages and current ratings. Receptacles and plugs shall be provided with one fixed grounding pole in addition to the circuit poles. 13、2.6 3.2.7 3.2.7.1 5.2 Exception: Plugs and receptacles which are UL Listed and CSA Certified as horsepower rated, circuit breaking “decontactor“ type. Circuits using plugs and receptacles shall conform with Ford Standard EW2 for wiring practices. Plugs and receptacles used in safety gate application

14、s shall meet the following additional requirement (and item 3.1.7). An interlocking plug and receptacle shall be connected into the circuit to prevent the machine or line from operating in the normal operating mode, or the continuous mode, or the automatic mode of operation when the plug is disconne

15、cted. 4. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS 4.1 All plugs and receptacles shall be UL Listed and CSA Certified. 5. REFERENCE DRAWINGS 5.1 A schematic of a 3-pole, 4-wire grounding type plug and receptacle for use in a 120 VAC safety gate control circuit is shown in Figure 1. Illustrations of metal plugs and r

16、eceptacles and non-metallic plugs and receptacles for use in safety gate applications are shown in Figures 2 and 3 respectively.
