、re all understood to be a coated, aircraft-type cable in accordance with Section 7 and its subsections below. 2. TRIPPING REQUIREMENTS: The safety system consisting of the switch, its attached pull cord and supporting hardware, etc. shall: 2.1 Trip due to a slack or broken pull cord. 2.2 Trip whethe

、S: 6.1 LOCK-OUT ACCESSORIES PROHIBITED FOR USE: Switches shall not be used for lock-out and therefore shall not be fitted with any device for this purpose. PILOT LIGHTS: Approved switches shall have RED pilot lights as an available option which mount into holes in the switch body or cover provided f

、or this purpose. Pilot lights shall be available in 24 and 120 Volt versions and have a 2,000 hour life as a minimum. 6.3 RESET PUSHBUTTONS : shall be booted (see Section 3.2 above) and shall be Blue in color. 7. INSTALLATIONS: 7.1 7.2 7.3 7.3.1 7.3.2 7.3.3 7.3.4 GENERAL: Where more than four emerge

、ncy stop pushbuttons are required a cable pull emergency stop switch is preferred. The pull cord(s) shall be accessible from any position where an emergency stop function is required. MOUNTING LOCATION: The switch shall be installed so automation moves in a direction away from the switch. For exampl

、e, the switch shall be upstream from the direction of travel for a conveyor. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: The switch and its associated pull cord and all hardware shall be installed in accordance with its manufacturers instructions, subject to the following limitations and additional requirements: HARDWARE:

、All hardware shall be steel with corrosion resistant finish. CABLE TYPE: The pull cord shall consist of a minimum of 3 mm (l/8 in) diameter, 19-strand, aircraft type, corrosion-resistant steel cable with bright RED plastic coating. Maximum permissible elongation shall not exceed 0.7 millimeters/mete

、r (0.013 inches/foot). LENGTH: The pull cord connected to any switch shall not exceed 23 meters (75 feet) in total length. MOUNTINGHEIGHT: The pull cord shall be installed from 0.9 to 1.8 meters (3 to 6 feet) above the level on which the operator employee stands. (ref. OSHA 1910.216 (b) (1) (iii).)

、FORD MANUFACTURING STANDARDS ES5 JUNE 1995 CABLE PULL EMERGENCY STOP SWITCHES ES5 Page 5 7.3.5 SUPPORTS: A closed eyebolt shall be installed no farther than 10 centimeters (4 inches) from the switch, directly in line with the centerline axis of the plunger-actuator. The pull cord (cable) shall be su

、pported thereafter at frequent intervals, not exceeding 3 meters (10 feet) between supports, using closed eye bolts and/or pulleys with closed (unopenable) side plates. Supports shall be designed and installed to minimize cable wear and to assure tripping requirements under Section 2 above are not e

、xceeded. Pulleys are recommended to reduce frictional forces, especially at turns. Where pulleys are used, a closed eyebolt should be installed within 10 centimeters (4 inches) on both sides of the pulley to maintain proper cable alignment. 7.3.6 7.3.7 NUMBER OF BENDS: Pull cord bends shall not exce

、ed the equivalent of two quarter bends (180 degrees total) where attached to one switch. A total of four quarter bends (360 degrees) shall be permitted if the pull cord is attached to a switch at both ends. TENSIONING DEVISES AND ATTACHMENTS: The pull cord shall be installed with a turnbuckle locked

、 with ham nuts at one end, or where a switch is installed at both ends of the same cable the turnbuckle may be located in the middle of its length. The cable shall be fastened to itself at all terminations with two forged steel wire rope clips (clamps) with grooved channel bases. It may be necessary

、 to remove the cable sheath at its terminations to reduce slippage. A steel rope thimble shall be used inside all cable terminations to protect the cable from chafing. 7.4 PARTICULAR APPLICATIONS: 7.4.1 CONVEYORS: Belt conveyor shall have an emergency stop cable extending its entire length, or conveniently located emergency stop buttons within 10 feet of each workstation.
