、 2 PAINT QUALITY, COIL SPRINGS ESA-M2P13-A NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE This specification defines the quality of the painted finish required for automotive coil springs. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for a finish specified where elasticity and fair gloss along
、with desired color for identification are necessary. It is specified for suspension coil springs, OHV engine valve springs, and assemblies and other coil springs where required. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to t
、he Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 CLEANING All surfaces to be painted shall be free from oil, grease, rust and other foreign material. Where possible three stage cleaning, preferably with a final chromic acid rinse, is desired (see MS 9-8). 3.2 PAINT TY
、PE One of the following types must be used: . Baked Japan type enamel. . Baked alkyd enamel. . Baked water emulsion paint. . Acrylic base N.A.D. type paint. . Powder paint by the electrostatic process. Note: The paint type must be approved by the Materials Engineering Office controlling application.
、 3.3 COLOR Black or identifying color When color for material or part identification is necessary, the color desired shall be specified on the engineering drawing. 9、iscellaneous seat and coil springs (black) C-43 . Miscellaneous coil springs C-291 5.2 The following special conditions apply to close wound coil springs only: 5.2.1 Due to the close winding of the springs, paint will adhere between the coils, causing a bridge effect where minor flaking could occur.
、 This is not considered detrimental to the springs and it is not a cause for rejection. 5.2.2 The above flaking can often be corrected or minimized by use of a low gloss finish. Low gloss shall not be considered a cause for rejection of close wound coil springs provided satisfactory flexibility and adhesion with a minimum of flaking is obtained.
