SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a ferritic chromium stainless steel having improved corrosion resistance, and improved drawing or forming properties to make the
3、 part and when given an appropriate finish, shall retain such finish under service conditions. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for the manufacture of decorative trim moldings, grille components and similar items. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATE

7、tings necessary to meet final part acceptance standards, they shall be determined in accordance with FLTM BA 12-1. 3.4 SURFACE FINISH (FLTM BQ 6-3) Materials supplied to this specification shall be uniform in quality, clean, sound, smooth, not to exceed 10 RMS micro-inch finish and free from defects
8、 detrimental to performance in fabrication, corrosion resistance and appearance of part for which it is intended. The surface quality shall be such that the material can be buffed to a finish and luster to meet visual acceptance standards using standard buffing equipment. Material to be prebuffed, b
9、right anneal or bright anneal acid passivated to minimum surface quality. 3.5 CORROSION RESISTANCE - AS RECEIVED FROM THE MILL (FLTM BQ 105-01) The material requirement under this specification shall have been give sufficient final pickling and passivation treatment to obtain acceptable corrosion re
10、sistance. Material as received and given no further preparation shall not show signs of failure by red rust, pits, or etching type corrosion, beyond that tabulated below, when subjected to the CASS Test (Copper Acetic Acid Salt Spray Test) for a period of 16 hours. 13、g Office shall meet rating 1 as shown in Table I under paragraph 3.4, Corrosion Resistance. 3.7 FINISHED PRODUCTS 3.7.1 Finished Products - Surface Finish Finished products shall have been buffed by an appropriate method, either by hand or mechanical means and with proper wheels, belts and compounds
14、 as required to produce the required surface finish and luster on significant surfaces to meet the master visual inspection sample part or parts approved by the affected Product Engineering Office and to provide specified corrosion resistance. Mitered joints (Example: glass window frame) shall be we
15、lded to provide a non-porous surface, when buffed shall provide a corrosion resistant finish, and meet the master visual acceptance standard. 3.7.2 Corrosion Resistance - Finished Products Significant surfaces of finished parts shall meet the corrosion resistance requirements for red rust, pits and
16、etching type corrosion as shown in Table I under paragraph 3.4 as follows: Exterior parts Rating No. 1 Interior parts Rating No. 2 3.7.3 Significant Surfaces Significant surface are those surfaces which in assembly are visible and subjected to wear or corrosion or both. Sheared or slit edges are excepted from the term significant surfaces unless specifically noted on the Engineering Drawing in which case they are to be buffed for corrosion resistance.
