、 of -40 C at a rate not to exceed 50 C/min. After maintaining this temperature for 3 h and still at this low the cable shall be wrapped around a mandrel 3.0 in (76 mm) in diameter for 180 at the uniform rate of one turn in 10 s. The insulation shall be removed for a distance of 1.0 in (25 mm) from e

ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION ESB-M1L45-A Page 4 of 5 Copyright 2003, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. 3.3.6 Flame Test A bunsen burner having a 0.5 in (13 mm) inlet, a nominal bore of 0.375 in (9.53 mm), a length
、 of approximately 4 in (102 mm), above the primary inlets, equipped with a wing-top flame spreader having a 1/16 x 2 in. (1.6 x 51 mm) opening fitted to the top of the burner shall be used. A 24 in. (610 mm) sample shall be suspended taut in a horizontal position within a partial enclosure which all
、ows a flow of sufficient air for complete combustion but is free from drafts. The tip of a 2 in. (51 mm) gas flame with an inner cone one-third its height shall then be applied to the center of the suspended cable. The time of application of the flame shall be 15 s. After removal of the bunsen burne
、r flame, the specimen shall not continue to burn for more than 30 s. 3.3.7 Abrasion Resistance, min 30 in (762 mm) of (SAE J 1128) tape 3.3.8 Scrape Resistance, min 50 strokes Test Method: Remove 0.5 in (13 mm) of insulation from one end of a 48 in (1220 mm) wire specimen. The specimen shall then be
、 placed along the scrape block and securely clamped and weighted as shown in Fig 1. The scrape machine shall use a hardened flat edge blade and a 3 lb (1.36 kg) weight. The test shall be conducted using a 6 in. (152 mm) scrape stroke in one direction only; the blade shall be automatically raised at
、the end of the stroke, returned to the original position and gently lowered at the beginning of the stroke. Reading shall be taken for the number of strokes to penetrate to the conductor. After each reading the specimen shall be moved 8 in. (200 mm) and rotated clockwise 90. (Two 48 in (1220 mm) spe
、cimens required for each test). Eight readings shall be obtained for each sample. Obtain the average by calculating the arithmetic mean of all readings. Discard all readings above the arithmetic mean and average the remaining readings. This average shall define the scrape resistance of the wire under test.
