、ESIVE, URETHANE - TWO COMPONENT - ROOM TEMPERATURE ESB-M2G189-A CURING - STRUCTURAL NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a two component, room temperature curing, urethane resin base, structural adhesive. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released
、originally as a material used for the structural bonding of glassfiber reinforced polyesters (ESB-M3D105, Type I and Type II) in the construction of the “L“ Series Truck components. The adhesive may be used to bond FRP to FRP, or FRP to steel. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION
、 MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 BOND STRENGTH (Overlap Shear), psi (MPa), min 600 (4.1) 400 psi (2.7 MPa), min is acceptable providing failure occurs within the glassfiber reinforced po

Cool to 23 +/- 2 C before applying adhesive. . Apply a small amount of adhesive (properly weighed and mixed) to
、the primer areas so as to effect an overlap shear bond area of 1 sq in (645 mm2) and a wet film thickness of 0.015 - 0.030 in (0.038 - 0.76 mm). (See Fig. 1). . Age the bonded assemblies for 48 hr at 23 +/- 2 C (accelerated heat curing of samples to simulate production conditions is allowable), foll

The overlap shear strength of the adhesive shall be determined by pulling the bonded assemblies in a tensile machine with a jaw separation rate of 0.5 in (13 mm)/min. 3.2 FLEXURAL (Peel) Strength, min 80 lb (670 N) (FRP to FRP Only) Failure shall occur within the 0.1 in thick FRP (glassfiber r
、einforced polyester) adhere ends, when tested after the conditioning periods as outlined in para 3.1. Test Method: ASTM D 790) Using a 1/8 in (3.2 mm) radius loading nose and a 2 in (50.8 mm) span, test samples shall be prepared as outlined in para 3.1. The bonded assemblies shall be loaded at the r

Test Method: . Prepare 3 typical reinforcement panels as illustrated on Fig. II. The bead application shall
、 be 0.25 in (6 mm) diameter over wash primed (ESB-M2G190) FRP. The metal bonding surface shall be primed with ESB-M2G197 Adhesion Primer for Structural Urethane Adhesive (Metal to FRP). Test assemblies for cold adhesion in the slamming fixture as outlined in the FLTM BV 1-2 (10 cycles of 6 slams per cycle at -29 C). Retention screws, needed for the bonding operation, shall be removed before slamming. 3.
、4 STORAGE STABILITY The materials (base resin and accelerator) shall be stored at ambient temperatures below 38 C away from all sources of heat and sunlight. Heat greatly accelerates aging. Under these storage conditions, the minimum shelf life of the material shall be 3 months. When these materials
、 are stored at temperatures below 23 C, they shall be conditioned at room temperature prior to application. Adequate conditioning permits the material to obtain its optimum application properties. These materials are reactive with moisture which may be present in the atmosphere and, therefore, shoul
、d be stored in tightly closed containers at all times in order to insure maximum storage stability. 3.5 NON-INTERCHANGEABILITY OF MATERIALS Only approved urethane adhesive and primers (FRP primer ESB-M2G190-A and metal primer ESB-M2G197-A) from the same production (supplier) source shall be used in
、conjunction with one another. 3.6 QUALITY The material shall be a smooth homogeneous mixture free from foreign materials and properties detrimental to normal production operations. 5. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirem
、ents of this specification. 5.1 CAUTION This material contains ingredients (base primer and accelerator) that under certain conditions of use could be considered toxic. Prolonged and repeated skin contact with this material should be avoided. If skin contact occurs, the material should be removed wi
、th alcohol followed by washing with soap and water. Excess adhesive and equipment may be cleaned prior to curing with Toluol (M14J242) or methylene chloride solvents. 5.2 HANDLING AND STORAGE The base resin of this material may react with moisture or humid air to form a crust. Care should be taken t
