2、MEL, BLACK BAKING, UNDERBODY ESB-M2J103-B NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a low or high bake black underbody baking enamel. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for enamels used on automotive underbodies and other non-visible

3、surfaces. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 COMPOSITION 3.1.1 Non-Volatile, min 42.0% (FLTM BI 102-01) 3.1.1.1 Pigment The pigments

4、 shall be balanced and blended so that the finished enamel matches the Ford Motor Company master panel in color and luster and meets the requirements of this specification for durability. 3.1.1.2 Vehicle The vehicle shall consist primarily of alkyd resins. There shall be no hard gums present. 3.1.2

5、Volatile The volatile components shall be such that a dry film of at least 0.00075 in (19 m) can be applied in two spray coats with satisfactory appearance. 3.1.3 Toxicity The enamel shall contain no benzol (benzene), chlorinated or other toxic compounds, or hydrolyzable chlorine derivatives nor hav

6、e an obnoxious or objectionable odor. ESB-M2J200-AA and BA Int

7、erior Enamel. . ESB-M16J102-B Primer. . ESB-M6J103-B Primer. . ESB-M6J62-A Reclaim Primer. . ESB-M6J80-A Electrostatic Primer. . ESB-M30J100-A Enamels. . ESB-M32J100-A Enamels. Additionally, the material shall be able to accept up to 50 percent total addition of any of the above surplus and still me

8、et the resistance, application, and stability requirements of this specification. 3.2 PHYSICAL PROPERTIES 3.2.1 Viscosity 20 - 28 s (FLTM BI 111-01) 3.2.2 Stability The material shall not jell nor liver upon standing. Test Method: Place a sealed, 3/4 full, pt (0.5 l) can in an oven for 16 h at 60 +/

9、- 1 C. An appreciable increase in viscosity (approximately 15 s) shall indicate nonstability. 3.3 PREPARATION OF TEST PANELS 3.3.1 Adhesion Panel Using panels zinc phosphated per ESB-M3P1, spray ESB-M6J102 (0.00075 in (19 m) min dry film thickness, on lower half of panels and flash 1 - 2 min. Do not

10、 bake. Spray ESB-M2J103 (0.00075 in (19 m) min dry film thickness) over the entire panel. Bake per paragraph 3.3.3. 3.3.2 Resistance Properties Panels Prepare panels as in 3.3.1, omitting ESB-M6J102 flash coat. 3.3.3 Bake The material shall meet all applicable requirements of this specification when

There shall be no sagging or roughness resulting from dry spray. 3

12、.5 FILM PROPERTIES 3.5.1 Adhesion (FLTM BI 106-01) No chipping or flaking over the following substrates: . Phosphate coated steel (ESB-M3P1). . ESB-M6J102 Epoxy Primer (wet on wet). In addition, spray ESB-M32J100 Acrylic Enamel (0.0015 - 0.0020 in (39 - 50 m) dry film thickness) over unsanded ESB-M2

13、J103 and bake 17 min at 129 C. Adhesion shall be satisfactory. 3.6 RESISTANCE PROPERTIES 3.6.1 Salt Spray Resistance, min 120 h (FLTM BI 103-01) No failure by blistering, rusting, or more than 1/8 in (3 mm) rust or blister creepage from a line scribed to bare metal when tested on panels prepared acc

14、ording to para 3.3.2. 3.6.2 Water Immersion, min 120 h (FLTM BI 104-01) Any blistering, peeling or other film defects shall constitute failure. 3.7 BLEEDING The material shall not bleed. Test Method Apply casual overspray to the surface of a CRLC steel panel, phosphate coated per ESB-M3P1-A. Overspr

15、ay should consist of separate specks of enamel. Allow to flash off and apply a solid covering coat of ESB-M30J100 quality white enamel to the overspray area. Bake according to paragraph 3.3.1. Age for 4 h under a S-1 sun lamp or fluorescent sun lamp as described in FLTM BU 105-01. Remove and inspect

16、. Subject the panel to the sun lamp for 20 additional h and reinspect. Repeat the procedure using ESB-M32J100 quality white enamel. 17、 for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.1 FLAMMABILITY This material represents a potential fire hazard. The Manufacturing Engineering Department shall notify both the Plant Security and the Safety Units of its presence in the Plant to assure that proper fire precautions are provided. The location in which it is used or stored shall be included in the notification.
