SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a baking enamel formulated to provide the required adhesion and weatherability properties for use as a decorative finish for anodized aluminum. 2. APPLICATION Th
3、is specification was released originally for enamel used for partially painted exterior anodized aluminum trim, such as large appliques, back panels, grilles, and moldings. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Co
4、mpanys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 TOXICITY The enamel shall contain no benzene, chlorinated or other toxic compounds, or hydrolyzable chlorine derivatives, nor have an obnoxious or objectionable odor. 3.2 PREPARATION OF TEST PANELS 3.2.1 Substrate Aluminum p
5、anels (ESB-M2A34) of any convenient size which have been bright anodized to meet ESB-M4P2-A. 3.2.2 Cleaning Panels Solvent wipe panels with M14J147 Naphtha. 3.2.3 Painting (FLTM BI 111-01) Reduce enamel to spray viscosity of 20 +/- 2 s. The solvent recommended by the manufacturer and spray panels wi
6、thin 1 h after cleaning. 3.2.4 Baking Bake enamel 30 min at 88 C and age 1 h min at 23 +/- 2 C before testing. 7、panel. 3.3.2 Gloss (FLTM BI 110-01, 60 Glossmeter) 3.3.2.1 Appearance Items The gloss shall be specified by means of a letter suffix to the color number assigned by Styling, as follows: A 92 min F 35 +/- 3 B 80 +/- 4 G 20 +/- 3 C 70 +/- 4 H 10 +/- 3 D 62 +/- 3 J 6 max E 50 +/- 3 3.3.3 General The en
8、amel shall bake out to a presentable, serviceable film showing no craters, pinholes, seediness or abnormal roughness. It shall have a reasonable tolerance to ordinary cleaning and polishing procedures. 3.4 FILM PROPERTIES 3.4.1 Film Hardness Shall be sufficiently hard at time of packing to withstand
9、 normal handling. 3.4.2 Adhesion (FLTM BI 106-01) No flaking or chipping. 3.4.3 Film Thickness 0.0010 - 0.0015 in (26 - 38 m) 3.4.4 Flexibility (FLTM BI 105-01) No cracks shall appear in the film of the test panel in the area extending 1/2 in (13 mm) beyond the small end of the mandrel. 11、e, max 14 Medium and dark colors, 0.007 in (0.18 mm) wedge, max 10 Light colors and white, 0.007 in (0.18 mm) wedge, max 8 3.5 RESISTANCE PROPERTIES 3.5.1 Water Resistance, min 96 h (FLTM BI 104-01) Test Method: Immerse the panels for 96 h in distilled or deionized water maintained at 32 +/- 1 C. Re
12、move parts from the water and immediately scribe an X through the enamel to the metal. Dry the scribed area with a paper towel, cloth or air pressure and immediately apply, with firm thumb pressure, a min of 2 sq in (13 cm2) of ESF-M3G48-A tape. Remove the tape by pulling one end at a 90 angle at a
13、moderate speed. The following conditions shall be basis for rejection: . Removal of paint beyond 1/16 in (1.6 mm) from any scribe line; . Any evidence of blistering after tape removal. 3.5.2 Weathering Resistance 3.5.2.1 Accelerated Weathering The enamel shall exhibit no checking and no more dulling
14、 or color change than the approved master sample on file in the Body Materials Section. The enamel shall not blister nor show any loss of adhesion when subjected to the following test: . FLTM BO 101-01 400 h . 24 h water immersion. Check adhesion per paragraph 3.5.1. 3.5.2.2 Florida Exposure (Miami
15、Area) The enamel shall exhibit no checking and no more dulling or color change than the approved master sample on file in the Body Materials Section. The enamel shall not blister nor show loss of adhesion when subjected to 1 cycle of the following test: . 160,000 langleys (approximately 1 year) min
16、exposure at 45 facing south in the Miami, Florida area. . 24 h water immersion. Check adhesion per paragraph 3.5.1. Note: In the event of differences in the test results of accelerated weathering (3.5.2.1) and Florida exposure (3.5.2.2), the results of the Florida exposure (3.5.2.2) shall govern. EN

Page 4 of 4 3.5.3 Thermal Shock Resistance (FLTM BI 107-05) The enamel shall exhibit no blistering or loss of adhesion when subjected to the following cycle test. . 4 h water immersion . 4 h min exposure at

Direct steam blast on scribed X at 45 angle 2 - 3 in (50 - 75 mm) from panel for 15 s min. 3.5.4 Resistance to Water and Soap Spotting (FLTM BI 113-01, except use of colorimeter is omitted) The enamel shall exhibit no more dulling or color change than the approved master sample on file in t
19、he Body Materials Section. 3.5.5 Resistance to Acid Spotting (FLTM BI 113-02, except use of colorimeter is omitted) The enamel shall exhibit no more dulling or color change than the approved master sample on file in the Body Materials Section. 3.5.6 Gasoline Resistance The enamel shall exhibit no mo
20、re softening, dulling, color transfer or color change than the approved master sample on file in the Body Materials Section. The enamel shall not blister or show any evidence of loss of adhesion. Test Method: Place the painted panel in a 600 ml beaker half full of M14J148 Petroleum Naphtha - Aliphat
21、ic type, at 22 +/- 2 C min, for 1 h. Wipe the panel with a soft cloth and examine the cloth for evidence of color transfer and the paint film for evidence of degradation. 3.6 STABILITY 3.6.1 Shelf Stability (FLTM BI 102-03) The material shall not jell or liver upon standing nor shall the viscosity i
22、ncrease more than 10 s above an initial spray viscosity of 20 s. 5. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.1 FLASH POINT Below 27 C 5.2 FLAMMABILITY This material represents a potential fire hazard. The Manufacturing Engineering Department shall notify both the Plant Security and the Safety Units of its presence in the Plant to assure that proper fire precautions are provided. The location in which it is used or stored shall be included in the notifications.
