、TH - BLACK - HEAT RESISTANT ESB-M3G32-A WATERPROOF - PRESSURE SENSITIVE 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a heat resistant, waterproof, pressure sensitive cloth tape. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for material used over clean white metal surfaces, suc

、h as access holes and pinch weld joints, subsequently subjected to high heat paint bake cycles. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 B

、ACKING Waterproof, black cloth 3.3 THREAD COUNT, min 64 x 56/in (25 x 22/10 mm) 3.4 BREAKING STRENGTH, min (ASTM D 1000, 20 in (508 mm)/min rate of pull) 3.4.1 Dry 35 lb/in (6.1 N/mm) 3.4.2 Wet 35 lb/in (6.1 N/mm) Test Method: Immerse specimens in tap water at 23 +/- 2 C for 6 h. Remove, blot off ex

、cess water and pull immediately. 3.5 UNWIND PULL, max 56 oz/in (613 N/m) Test Method: Condition roll of tape for 22 h at 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 2% relative humidity. Place core of tape around a fixture which will allow it to revolve. Attach the free end of the tape to a 10 lb (4.5 kg) maximum limit s

、pring scale. Pull the tape from its roll at the rate of 12 in (305 mm)/min. Measure and record the unwind pull as a direct scale reading. 3.6 ADHESION TO BACKING, min 25 oz/in (274 N/m) (ASTM D 1000, 12 in (305 mm)/min rate of pull) 3.7 ADHESION TO STEEL, min 25 oz/in (274 N/m) (ASTM D 1000, 12 in (

、NG, Storage Stability (ASTM D 1000, except maintain the cabinet at 98 +/- 2% relative humidity and 38 +/- 1 C). The adhesive shall show no signs of separating from its backing nor loss in adhesion or tack. It shall not become a pasty or stringy mass. The backing shall not become brittle. 3.11 ADHESI

、VE SOLUBILITY The adhesive shall be soluble in M-14J167, Special Spirits, and M-14J147, Petroleum Light Naphtha. 3.12 WATERFASTNESS OF DYE Waterfast Test Method: Vigorously shake a 4 in (100 mm) strip of tape in 200 ml of distilled water at 23 +/- 2 C. Allow to stand in the water at 23 +/- 2 C for 4

、 h. Any discoloration of the water will be cause for rejection. 3.13 BURSTING STRENGTH, min 3.13.1 As Received 80 psi (552 kPa) 3.13.2 After High Temperature Exposure 70 psi (483 kPa) (ASTM D 774, except for the following: Tape specimens of no less than 2-1/2 inches (64 mm) in width shall be employe

、d in the testing. The heat exposure samples shall be conditioned in a mechanical convection oven for 30 min at 205 +/- 3 C. The samples shall be exposed vertically by some convenient means and the backing shall face the direction of the air draft. The specimens shall be permitted to cool to 23 +/- 2

、 C for a minimum of 1 h. Prior to testing, a sheet of vellum paper, 0.0025 in (0.064 mm) thick, shall be bonded to the adhesive mass surface and then the burst strengths are performed.) Note: The vellum, 0.0025 in (0.064 mm), is used to prevent sticking of the adhesive mass to the rubber diaphragm a

、nd metal contact surfaces. The burst strength of the vellum paper averages 36 psi (248 kPa). Direct total readings shall be reported. 3.14 HIGH TEMPERATURE ADHESION TO STEEL, min 72 oz/in (788 N/m) width Test Method: Adhesion panels are prepared per ASTM D 1000, then exposed for 20 min at 205 +/- 3

、C. The test samples are cooled to 23 +/- 2 C for 1 h prior to testing. The adhesion is measured at the rate of 12 in (305 mm)min. 3.15 FINISHED TAPE The tape shall be wound evenly on rolls so that the surface of the roll shall be free from depressions. The tape shall have no liner over the adhesive

、and shall unroll evenly and uniformly without unraveling. The adhesive material shall not separate from the backing so as to leave bare spots or show offsetting of the adhesive from one layer to another when the tape is unwound. When unwound from the roll, the tape shall remain reasonably flat with no tendency to curl transversely. The tape shall adhere snugly to work without wrinkling, curling, or buckling. The edges of the tape shall be straight, true and unbroken so as to provide sharp distinct boundaries to finished areas. The tape shall be wound on standard 3 in (75 mm) cores.
