SCOPEThe material defined by this spe

2、cification is an extruded tape formpressure sensitive heat expanding EPDM base sealer. It incorporates anethylene vinyl acetate film on one side to facilitate application of thesealer to the sheet metal.2. APPLICATIONThis specification was released originally for material used in the BodyShop for se

3、aling weld joints and openings where welding is not arequirement.It has an agressive pressure sensitive adhesive which promotes adhesion tooiled CRLC steel, galvanized steel and steel sheet, and zinc rich primercoated substrates. This material has good phosphate wash resistanceproperties. The materi

4、al expands during the electrocoat bake schedulesnoted per para 5.3.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 STATISTICAL PROCESSSuppliers must conform to the requirements of Ford Quality SystemStandard Q-101. A mutually acceptable Control Plan as describedtherein is required for material/source approval. Appropriatestatis

5、tical tools must be used to analyze process/product data sothat variation in the final product is continuously reduced.3.2 INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMETRY AND/OR THERMAL ANALYSISFord Motor Company, at its option, may conduct infrared and/orthermal analysis of material/parts supplied to this specification

6、.The IR spectra and thermograms established for initial approval shallconstitute the reference standard and shall be kept on file at thedesignated material laboratory. All samples shall produce IR spectraand thermograms that correspond to the reference standard when testedunder the same conditions.N

12、pply two 200 mm length ribbons of material to each oftwo 0.89 x 100 x 300 mm steel panels per para 5.2 and conditionpanels at 23 C +/- 2 C for 1 h. Bake one panel at each material cureschedul e per para 5.3. Position panels in a horizontal attitudeduring material bake. After bake, condition pan els

13、at 23 +/- 2 C for4 h min. Evaluate adhesion by inserting the tip of a sharp spatulaunder the end of the material strip. Grasp the tab of sealer andattempt to peel at 180 deg.The mat erial strip shall not be removable in a continuous coherentfilm. Observe for any indication that the material fails to

14、 adhereto the substrate or is brittle or friable.3.13 LOW TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE No cracking oradhesion failureTest Method: Prepare t wo 0.89 x 100 x 300 mm test panels para 3.11.Con dition the panels in a mechanical convection oven at 70 +/- 2 Cfor 7 days. Condition the samples at 23 +/- 2 C for 1

15、hour. Place thepanels in the slamming apparatus (FLTM BV 1-2) at - 29 +/- 2 C for 4hours. Slam each panel a total of 10 times.3.14 RESISTANCE TO CORROSION 500 h(ASTM B 117)No loss of adhesion or blistering of the material and no evidence ofcorrosion on the metal surface when subjected to salt spray.

16、Test Method: Apply a 1 50 mm length strip of material at the edge oftwo 0.89 x 75 x 150 mm oily steel panels. Sandw ich the material withanother steel panel as shown in drawing below and weld at intervalsindicated. Cure two sa mples at each of the bake schedules indicatedin para 5.3.Subje ct the cur

19、self-extinguishing within 30 s3.18 UNCURED ADHESION AND RELEASE PAPER REMOVALTh e sealer shall adhere when hand applied to oily steel surfaces.Th e material shall be capable of having the release paper backingremoved without distorting the shape of the sealer.3.19 PACKAGINGThe material shall be supp

20、lied in sealed packages and materialblocking is not permitted during container shipping or storage.3.20 STORAGE STABILITYShall be stored below 41 C away from all sources of heat andsunligh t. Under these storage conditions, the shelf life of themat erial shall be 3 months. When these materials are s

21、tored atte mperatures below 23 C, they shall be conditioned at roomtemperature prior to ap plication. Adequate conditioning permits thematerial to obtain it optimum application properties.3.21 FUNCTIONAL APPROVALMaterials being evaluat ed for initial approval to this specificationshall be subjected

22、to a production trail. Functional trail resultsshoul d be available to Design and Materials Engineering prior tomaterial approval and release.3.22 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITYAll materials supplied to this specification mu st be equivalent inal l characteristics to the material upon which approval wasor

23、iginally granted.Pr ior to making any changes in the properties, composition,co nstruction, color, processing, or labeling of the materialorig inally approved under this specification, whether or not suchchange s affect the materials ability to meet the specificationrequirements, the Supplier shall

24、notify Purchasing, Toxicology, andthe affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposed changesand obtain the written approval of the Materials Engineeringactivity. 26、ocument for the application.4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALSMat erials defined by this specification must have prior approval by theresponsible Materials Engineeri ng activity. Suppliers desiring approval ofthe ir materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from theaffec ted Purchasing, Design an

27、d Materials Engineering activity. Uponrequest, the Supplier shall submit to the affected Materials Engineeringactivity its own laboratory rep ort to the specification (test results, notnominal values), the material designation and code number, and testspecim ens for Ford evaluation. Upon approval, t

28、he material will be addedto the Engineering Material Approved Source List.5.
