2、 DESIGN 1. SCOPE This specification defines the standardized characteristics desired in good quality trim plastic materials. The materials may be formed by any method, including injection molding, blow molding, extrusion, vacuum forming, etc. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally
3、 for materials used in manufacturing trim parts such as cowl kick panels, seat side shields, consoles and center pillar covers. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 CONDITIONING All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidit
4、y for 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same controlled conditions. 3.2 APPEARANCE (FLTM BI 9-1) The color, pattern, and finish shall match the approved Design Center master sample, or shall be as specified on the engineering drawing. 3.3 IMPACT STRENGTH As specified on the engineering draw
5、ing 3.4 ABRASION (FLTM BN 8-2) Wear pattern and color shall be compatible in appearance with the adjacent unabraded area. The resistance to abrasion of production material shall be equal to or better than that exhibited by the master sample approved by the Textile Engineering Section, BEPE Materials

Roof area 150 cycles, 500 g Door & cowl areas 250 cycles, 1000 g Instrument panel & console areas 400 cycles, 1000 g Floor area 1000 cycles, 1000 g The color of the base material shall be compatible with the surface coating. Production materials shall have a color compatible
7、 base which will match the color of the master sample. Production material shall exhibit
8、scuffing qualities equal to or better than the master sample approved for the Textile Engineering Section, BEPE Materials Engineering Department. Note: Resistance to wear and scuffing shall be conducted on the finished part when possible. Otherwise, equivalent molded material provided by the supplie
9、r shall be tested. The scuff requirement may be waived by the releasing product engineering office on painted parts, if noted on the engineering drawing. 3.6 COATING ADHESION (FLTM BI 6-1, Part B, except do not scribe lines) The tape shall not lift or delaminate the paint or surface coating. 3.7 FAD
10、E (FLTM BN 1-1, 120 SFH) The material shall not stain, exhibit color tone change or change in hue, in accordance with rating 5 of the AATCC chart for measuring transference of color. Production material shall exhibit lightfastness qualities equal to or better than the master sample approved by the T
11、extile Engineering Section, BEPE Materials Engineering Department. 3.8 HEAT AGING The material shall not stain, exhibit color tone change or change in hue in accordance with rating 5 of the AATCC chart for measuring transference of color. Production materials shall exhibit heat aging properties equa
12、l to or better than the master sample approved by the Textile engineering Section, BEPE Materials Engineering Department. Test Method: Hang samples in an air circulating oven at 102 +/- 3 C for 7 days. Remove and examine for discoloration and deterioration. Parts distorted by the heat aging test sha
13、ll not be reported as failures. 3.9 FLAMMABILITY, max 4 in (101 mm)/min (FLTM BN 24-2, without the lot sampling plan) In addition, the test specimen shall not exhibit any flashing or sudden flaming on either surface in excess of the above max value. 14、 3 of 3 3.10 PERFORMANCE - ENVIRONMENTAL AGING All materials, portions of components, and composites defined by this specification that have not been treated, modified or reformulated and exceed a max burn rate of 3.0 in (76 mm) per min as specified by the Flammability Lot Sampling Plan of FLTM BN 2
15、4-2, must be evaluated for permanency of the materials flame retardant properties per ESB-M25P3-A according to the accelerated environmental aging requirements applicable to the basic material category of this particular specification. Any material, portions of components, and composites defined by
16、this specification that have been treated, modified or reformulated to conform to Flammability Lot Sampling Plan of FLTM BN 24-2, regardless of max burn rate, must be evaluated for both permanency of materials flame retardant properties and changes in mechanical, chemical and physical properties per
17、 ESB-M25P3-A applicable to the basic materials category of this particular specification. 3.11 CROCKING Rating 5 (FLTM BN 7-1) 3.12 H2S STAINING Rating 5 (FLTM AN 2-1) Production materials shall exhibit H2S staining qualities equal to or better than the master sample approved by the Textile Engineer
18、ing Section, BEPE Materials Engineering Department. 3.13 MIGRATION STAINING (FLTM BN 3-1) The surface shall show no evidence of injurious exudation, adhesion (tackiness), separation, color transfer, or flattening of the embossing when placed face to face with itself or materials of the ESB-M2F4, 2F9
19、, 2F62, etc., series. 3.14 ODOR Not disagreeable 3.15 RESISTANCE TO ELEVATED TEMPERATURES No objectionable distortions or loss of surface texture when exposed in the assembled position after 3 h at 82 +/- 3 C in an air circulating oven. 3.16 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITY Material supplied to this specifi
20、cation must be equivalent to that originally approved. Changes in formulation or processing shall not be made without prior approval as described in Supplier Procedure I-A. 4. APPROVAL OF SUPPLIERS Suppliers to this specification must be approved by the affected product engineering office. Procedure for gaining approval of a specific material to a new/existing ES-M specification is contained in Supplier Procedure I-A. Approved new suppliers will be added to the Engineering Materials Approved Source List.
