、11, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. LABEL, POLYESTER, THERMAL TRANSFER PRINTABLE, ESE-M7G3-A PRESSURE SENSITIVE NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a surface treated polyester film which accepts thermal transferable printed images from a computer contr
、ol printer. The polyester film is undercoated with a pressure sensitive adhesive which is protected by a suitable release liner. The printed surface is laminated with a protective clear polyester. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for a label system on which the engine build
、calibration and engine build date are printed on-site by a computer control printer using the thermal transfer system. 3. REQUIREMENTS Material specification requirements are to be used for initial qualification of materials. 3.1 QUALITY SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Material suppliers and part producers must
、 conform to the Companys Quality System Requirements. 3.2 CONDITIONING AND TEST CONDITIONS All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same co
、nditions unless otherwise specified. 3.3 APPEARANCE The labels shall be free of streaks, blisters, wrinkles, ragged edges, smeared printing and any other surface imperfections which will make them unsuitable for the intended usage. The design and color shall be as specified on the engineering drawin

ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION ESE-M7G3-A Page 2 of 3 Copyright 2011, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. 3.4 PREPARATION OF TEST SPECIMENS The labels shall be tested on actual or on laboratory panels which are representative of the parts with respect to substrate, coating and all other process op
、erations (refer to para 5 for approved substrates). The label must be tested with the printed images affixed by the on-site printing equipment. 3.5 ADHESION - 90 to Plane, min 330 N/m width (ASTM D 1000) 3.6 ENVIRONMENTAL TESTING OF PANEL ASSEMBLY Test shall be completed in 1 - 2 h after removal fro
、m the conditioning environment. Limits for requirements 3.6.1 through 3.6.8 except 3.6.4. After each of the environmental exposures, the label must not show evidence of delamination, loss of printing, loss of adhesion or any other effect which would detract from its proper function or appearance. Li
、mits for requirement 3.6.4 are same as above except loss of adhesion may not exceed 50% of the adhesion area. 3.6.1 ASTM Fuel B for 1 h at 23 +/- 2 C Adhesion - 90 to Plane, min 330 N/m width 3.6.2 ASTM Oil #3 for 2 h at 102 +/- 3 C. Adhesion - 90 to Plane, min 330 N/m width 3.6.3 50-50 solution of
、ESE-M97B44-A ethylene glycol and water plus 1% of ESE-M7C32-A soluble oil. Pour 1000 mL of boiling solution on a panel 85 deg to normal plane. Adhesion - 90 to Plane, min 330 N/m width 3.6.4 Direct a steam jet (about 690 kPa pressure with a 6.4 mm diameter orifice and at a distance of approximately
、200 mm from the decals edge) for 60 sec at a 10 angle to its edge. 3.6.5 Direct a stream of air (414 - 552 kPa pressure) with a 2.4 mm diameter orifice at a distance of approximately 75 mm from the decals edge for 3 min at a right angle to the surface and then for 3 min at a 10 angle to its edge. 3.

The release backing shall not tear or delaminate while being removed from the label. 3.9 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITY All materials supplied to this specification must be equivalent in all characteristics
、 to the material upon which approval was originally granted. Prior to making any changes to the material originally approved under this specification, whether or not such changes affect the materials ability to meet the specification requirements, the Supplier shall notify the affected Purchasing, a
、nd Materials Engineering activities (with reasons) of the proposed changes. Upon notification of the Company, further instructions will be provided. Note: Suppliers should be prepared to provide test data and samples demonstrating compliance to this specification, if requested. Substance restriction
、s imposed by regulations or Company direction applies to the materials addressed by this document. The restrictions are identified in Restricted Substance Management Standard WSS-M99P9999-A1. 4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALS Materials defined by this specification for direct supply to the Company must have
、prior approval. Certain materials subcontracted by part suppliers may also require prior approval. These include materials critical to the Companys business for regulatory, safety, environmental or compatibility requirements or contractual agreements. Suppliers desiring approval of their materials s
、hall first obtain an expression of interest from Purchasing, Design or Materials Engineering activity. Upon request, the Supplier shall submit a completed copy of their laboratory test reports, signed by a qualified and authorized representative of the test facility, demonstrating full compliance with all the requirements of this specification.
