SCOPE: The material defined by this specification is a high grade fuel resistant gasketing material comprised of asbestos free reinforcing compounds in combination with a nitrile elastomeric binder. 2. APPLICATION: This specification was released ori
3、ginally for a fuel and oil resistant material requiring high flange loads to seal against internal pressures at temperatures up to 177 C, such as the intake manifold gasket. The material has good conformability and can be used on rough or wavy flange surfaces. 3. REQUIREMENTS: All tests shall be con
4、ducted in accordance with ASTM F 104 Type 6 material unless otherwise specified. 10、.D. test specimen is clamped between 2 discs of 13.5 mm I.D. x 51 mm O.D. metal plates (maximum thickness 1.57 mm) backed by 12.7 mm steel plates. A 12.7 mm steel bolt is inserted through the hole and a nut put on it. Tighten the bolt to 79 Nm. Heat the assembly to 149 +/- 3 C for 5h. Remove and all

The specimen shall come off the metal plates without tearing and the metal plates must show no evidence of corrosion. 3.9 INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMETRY AND/OR THERMAL ANALYSIS Ford Motor Company, at its option, may conduct infrared and/or thermal analysis of material/par
12、ts supplied to this specification. The IR spectra and thermogram established for initial approval shall constitute the reference standard and shall be kept on file at the designated material laboratory. All samples shall produce IR spectra and thermogram that correspond to the reference standard whe
13、n tested under the same conditions. 3.10 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITY All materials supplied to this specification must be equivalent in all characteristics to the material upon which approval was originally granted. Prior to making any change in the properties, composition, construction, color, process
14、ing or labeling of the material originally approved under this specification, whether or not such changes affect the materials ability to meet the specification requirements, the Supplier shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology and the affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposed changes and
15、obtain the written approval of the Materials Engineering activity. Test data, test samples and a new code identification are to be submitted with the request. Substance restrictions imposed by law, regulations or Ford, apply to the materials addressed by this document. The restrictions are defined i
16、n Engineering Material Specification WSS-M99P9999-A1, unless a different suffix (e.g., A2 or A3) is specified on the engineering document for the application. 17、 approval by the responsible Materials Engineering activity. Suppliers desiring approval of their materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from the affected Purchasing, Design and Materials Engineering activity. Upon request, the Supplier shall submit to the affected Materials Engineering activity its own laboratory report to the specification (test results, not nominal values), the material designation and code number, and test specimens for Ford evaluation. Upon approval, the material will be added to the Engineering Material Approved Source List.
