13、nds. Weigh a 1-2 g sample correct to the nearest 0.1 mg. Introduce into a 300 mL tall-form beaker. Add 25 mL of concentrated sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and heat to dense fumes. Remove from heat, cool and add 5 mL concentrated nitric acid (HN03). Heat again to dense fumes and repeat the additions of HN03u
14、ntil the organic matter is completely destroyed (until solution is pale yellow). Remove from heat, cool and add 3-5 mL of peroxide (30% H2O2). Heat again to dense fumes of H2SO4. Remove from heat, cool and dilute to 100 mL volume cautiously with distilled water. Boil for 30 min to destroy peroxide.
15、Remove from plate and cool, again bringing the volume to 100 mL with water. Filter through #41 Whatman filter paper and wash until acid free to litmus. Ignite the paper in a tared porcelain crucible at 538 C. Cool, dessicate and weigh. Residue x 100% = % Glass Fiber - Sample Weight To the recovered
16、filtrate, add concentrated ammonia (NH40H) until the filtrate is alkaline to phenolphthalein. Add 25 mL of aqueous ammonium sulfide or saturate with gaseous hydrogen sulfide. Carefully acidify with dilute (1 to 1) H2SO4, until acidic to methyl orange. Boil incipiently until no odor of hydrogen sulfide is detected. Filter through #42 Whatman filter paper and wash until acid free to litmus. Ignite the paper in a tared, covered platinum crucible at 538 C. Cool, dessicate and weigh.
