2、-AHIGH FLEXIBLE, EXTERIOR1. SCOPEThe mate rial defined by this specification is a high flexible exteriorclearc oat for plastic parts. It must be cured with a suitable isocyanatehardener.2. APPLICATIONThis spe cification was released originally for material used as two packclearcoat over metallic bas

3、ecoat for polycarbonate bumpers.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 STATISTICAL PROCESSSupplie rs must conform to the requirements of Ford Quality SystemStand ard Q-101. A mutually acceptable Control Plan as describedtherein is required for material/source approval. Appropriatestatist ical tools must be used to anal

4、yze process/product data sothat variation in the final product is continuously reduced.3.2 INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMETRY AND/OR THERMAL ANALYSISFord Motor Company, at its option, may conduct infrared and/ortherma l analysis of material/parts supplied to this specification.The IR spectra and thermograms

5、 established for i nitial approval shallconst itute the reference standard and shall be kept on file at thedesignated material laboratory. All samples sha ll produce IR spectraand thermograms that co rrespond to testing and tested under the sameconditions unless otherwise specified.3.3 CONDITIONINGA

6、ll test values indicated herein are based on ma terial conditioned ina control led atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relativehumidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under thesame conditions unless otherwise specified.3.4 COMPOSITION3.4.1 Resin: Synthetic resins, containing

8、n. 45 %The n on-volatile content shall be determined at a sprayviscosity of 20 s according to para 3.5.4.3.5.2 Density see Initial Sample +/- 0.02 g/mL(ASTM D 1475)3.5.3 Viscosity as supplied see Initial Sample +/- 2 s (FLTM BI 111-01)3.5.4 Spray Viscosity as specified by the supplier (FLTM BI 111-0

9、1, FC #4)The material can be red uced with Xylene (S-M14J245-A), Butylacetate (ESK-M14J228-A) or any other suitable thinner.3.5.5 Mixing ratio as specified by the supplier Th e material shall be cured with isocyanate hardeners ESK-M99J323-A1/-A2, SK-M99J9608-A or any other suita ble hardener.3.5.6 S

10、torage Stability: 90 daysDuri ng a storage of 90 days between 5 and 32 C temperaturethe m aterial as supplied shall not settle up or cakeinso luble. After the storage the material must pass allspecification requirements.3.6 PREPARATION OF TEST PANELS3.6.1 SubstratePolycarbonate, Polyurethane, Polypr

11、opylene, etc. as specifiedon E ngineering Drawing. All tests shall be performed onpanels with a smooth, ungrained surface.3.6.2 Plastic PreparationThe surface to be painted shall be cleaned by an acceptablepr ocess, e.g. power wash, to remove mold releasing agents,fingerprints, oils, dirt and moistu

12、re.Note: PP/EPDM plastics must either be primed with anadhesion primer or pret reated (flame process, etc.) prior topainting to provide sufficient paint adhesion.3.6.3 Primer Surfacer (if required)Application of a primer surfacer, film thickness and bakingas specified in the relevant material specif

13、ication.ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONESK-M16J4-AWP 3948-b Page 3 of 4 3.6.4 BasecoatApplication of current production low bake basec oat accordingto specifications ESK-M16J5-A/-A2 or WSK-M62J30-A1/-A2.3.6.5 ClearcoatWet on wet application of two pack high flexible clearcoat;Dry film thickness:

14、35 - 40 micrometre;Flash off time: 5 minutes at room temperature;Baking, in combination with:water based basecoat, 25 minutes at minimum 90 C;solvent based basecoat, 35 minutes at minimum 80 C.3.6.6 Ageing:Test panels prepared under this specification shall be agedfor at least 168 h at 23 +/- 2 C or

15、 16 h at 45 + /- 1 C beforetesting for resistance properties.3.7 APPEARANCECol our, gloss, grain and surface finish shall match master TrimSample and/or Master Appearance Sample as approved by Design.3.7.1 Colour colourless(FLTM BI 109-01)3.7.2 Gloss, min 90 %(FLTM BI 110-01, 60 deg)3.8 RESISTANCE P

16、ROPERTIESTest Panels and plastic parts painted according to para 3.6 of thisspecification shall meet all requirements of performancespecification WSK-M2P145-A.3.9 COLD IMPACT RESISTANCE (Initial Approval only)Falling dart test at -25 C (equipment available in Materials &Fastener Quality Engineering

17、laboratory, Merkenich) or as specifiedon Engineering Drawing.The pai nted part shall show no breaks, cracks, chipping or otherfailur es. The topcoat shall not deteriorate the cold impactresistance of the unpainted part.3.10 QUALITYThe clearcoat must be adaptable for application in accordance withthe

18、 appropriate Ford Motor Company Process Specification.The cle arcoat must be compatible with all related materials, e.g.basecoat, substrate, adhesives, etc.ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONESK-M16J4-AWP 3948-b Page 4 of 4 3.11 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITYAll materials supplied to this specification mus

19、t be equivalent inal l characteristics to the material upon which approval wasoriginally granted.Pr ior to making any changes in the properties, composition,co nstruction, color, processing or labelling of the materialorig inally approved under this specification, whether or not suchchange s affect

20、the materials ability to meet the specificationrequir ements, the Supplier shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology andthe affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposed changesand obtain the written approval of the Materials Engineeringactivity. Test data, t est samples and a new code identific

21、ation areto be submitted with the request.Substance restrictions imposed by law, regulations or Ford, apply tothe materials addressed by this document. The restrictions aredefined in Engineering Material Specification WSS-M99P9999-A1.4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALSMat erials defined by this specification m

22、ust have prior approval by theresp onsible Materials Engineering activity. Suppliers desiring approvalof thei r materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from theaffec ted Purchasing, Design and Materials Engineering activity. Uponrequest, the Supplier shall submit to the affected Mater

23、ials Engineeringactivity a completed copy of their laboratory test reports, signed by aqualified and authorized representative of the test faci lity, demonstratingful l compliance with all the requirements of this specification (testresults, not nominal values), the material designation a nd code nu

24、mber, andtes t specimens for Ford evaluation. Fords engineering approval of amateri al will be based on its performance to this specification and on anassessment of suitability for intended processes and/or applications. Uponapprov al, the material will be added to the Engineering Material ApprovedS

25、ource List.5. GENERAL INFORMATIONThe information given below is provided for assistance and clarificationand does not represent requirement(s) to this specification.5.1 DENSITY OF THE DRY FILM see Initial Sample +/- 0,02 kg/L(FLTM BI 154-02)5.2 MATERIAL REFERENCEAll rel ated materials used for approval of clearcoat according tothis specification, e.g. basecoat, thinner, hardener and plasticsubstrate as well as th e application parameter shall be noted in theInitial Sample Report of the clearcoat.
