、PE ESR-M18P7-A NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a compound which when applied between close fitting metal surfaces, provides sealing and low breakaway strength. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for material used for sealing
、 and locking tapered thread fittings and pipes. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 The material must meet the following requirements
、 of this specification and must be in a ready-to-use form. 3.2 Must be easy to apply. 3.3 Should not shrink after application. 3.4 Must provide sealing against as wide as possible a variety of chemicals and lubricants both liquid and gaseous, particularly automotive chemicals and lubricants. 3.5 Mus
、t seal against high internal pressures, i.e. minimum values to be as close as possible to the bursting strength of the system to which it is applied. 3.6 Must be proof against as wide a temperature range as possible. 3.7 Should provide lubrication at assembly and disassembly. 3.8 Must have low break
、away strength for easy disassembly. 3.9 Must provide good statistical reliability in field tests. 3.10 Should resist vibration loosening. 3.11 If the material must cure to seal against pressure, the cure time should not be excessively long, but should not be so short as to preclude minor adjustments
、 in fitting angle. 3.12 The seal effected by the material should last as long as possible. 3.13 Must have no harmful effect on the system to which it is applied. 8、able odor either during or after application. 3.15 Must be reasonably safe to apply and handle. It must meet all federal, state and, insofar as feasible, local regulations, and must be formulated to minimize employee health hazards due to toxic or otherwise injurious ingredients. 3.16 Must not harm
、materials such as painted surfaces, bright trim, glass, vinyl roofs, tires, rubber parts, etc., to which it may accidentally come in contact. It must also be readily removable from such materials. 3.17 CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES Specific chemical and physical properties are not specified herei
、n, but an Engineering Quality Control Supplement will be issued to cover each approved material. The selected engineering approved source shall furnish appropriate chemical and physical properties along with the production tolerance limits that apply to the material(s) upon which approval was given.
、 The agreed upon values and limits will be issued to Quality Control by the affected product engineering office. These values will then be used by Quality Control for ongoing quality verifications. The Quality Control Supplement is an integral requirement of this specification. If more than one sour
、ce supplies material to this specification, a Quality Control Supplement will be issued for each specific approved material. 3.18 STORAGE The material shall not settle or separate to the extent that would require remixing before use and must be capable of storage without any detrimental effect for a
、 minimum of two years. Supplier shall furnish all necessary information on types of material required for packaging and on the storage life of the material in each of the product packages supplied. For any particular size package or container for the product, the supplier shall furnish information o
、n safe storage practice and recommendations as to maximum and minimum ambient temperatures and direct sun load conditions at which the product may be stored without any adverse effect. 3.19 LABELING 3.19.1 Provisions of this specification are applicable when material is used according to labeling di
、rections. Any precautions involved in the use of the material must be clearly stated on the product label. 3.19.2 The label(s) for the material(s) must comply with the Federal Hazardous Substances Act and all other provisions under the Consumer Product Safety commission and all other applicable fede
、ral, state and local regulations. Supplier shall furnish the affected product engineering office with the label(s). 3.19.3 Supplier shall furnish certification that the composition of his product has been examined and that the label recommended is in compliance with the Federal Hazardous substances
、Act and all other provisions under the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Completed Material Health and Safety Data Sheets and Hazardous Substances Data Sheets must be submitted by the supplier to the Ford Motor Company toxicologist. 19、age information for container labels. This portion of the label information must be approved by the affected product engineering office. 3.19.6 If the label submitted by the supplier contains any advertising claims, suitable corroborative testing data must also be furnished. Such claims and data are
、 encouraged. 3.20 MARKING 3.20.1 Containers and cartons must be marked with a code indicating source and compounding date of the material. Supplier must furnish this code to the affected product engineering office. 5. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and
、assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.1 The test report data furnished by the supplier showing compliance with this specification shall give the specific test methods followed and shall give specific answers to generalized requirements. 5.2 Generally accepted test methods (
、American Society for Testing and Materials, Society of Automotive Engineers and Ford Laboratory Test Methods are preferred) and procedures should be followed where such methods are known, otherwise the methods of evaluation should be explained in detail. 5.3 Comparative performance data ratings utilizing the requirements outlined above, comparing the proposed material(s) to presently marketed Ford Motor Company products, are encouraged.
