SCOPE This specification establishes the performance and product requirements for automotive service fill crankcase oils to be marketed under the Motorcraft trademark and is not intended to limit th

、e material to any specific formulation, but rather defines the total performance required of engine oils. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for oils used for crankcase lubrication in automotive spark ignition and certain diesel internal combustion engines for the manufacturer

、s recommended oil change intervals. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 The material must meet the requirements of Ford Engineering M

、aterial Specification ESE-M2C153-B (latest revision), except substitute the following paragraphs for para 3.1 of ESE-M2C153-B. For the 3 multi-viscosity grades: SAE 20W-50, SAE 20W-40 and SAE 10W-30, complete engine testing is required on SAE 10W-30. Either of the remaining products, which have not

、been engine tested, may be qualified by supplier certification that they contain the same viscosity index improver and at least the same amount of identical additive agents such as detergents, dispersants, oxidation inhibitors, corrosion inhibitors, etc., and are compounded with oils of the same bas

、e stock as the lubricant previously qualified. Where a multi-functional viscosity index improver is used to qualify SAE 10W-30, complete engine testing must also be obtained for either SAE 20W-50 or SAE 20W-40, if the same viscosity index improver is used in reduced amount. For the 5 single grades:

、SAE 10W, SAE 20W-20, SAE 30, SAE 40 and SAE 50 complete engine testing is required on SAE 30. The remaining 4 products which have not been engine tested may be qualified by supplier certification of identical additive package and the same base stock. The definition of engine oil for purposes of this

、 specification shall be a finished base stock plus an additive package. The supplier must provide specific base stock information, in addition to engine test data, indicating crude source, refining process and relative percentage of blend components. If the supplier changes either the base stock sou

、rce, refining processes or any individual additive, the previous data provided will not be considered adequate to maintain approval. It shall be the responsibility of the supplier to provide sufficient additional test data to satisfy the responsible product engineering office that the reformulated p

、roduct meets all pertinent specifications. The magnitude of the change will determine the extent of the test data required. If the affected product engineering office determines that the change is too large, all new certified test data showing compliance with this specification will be required. ENG

Any of the above (para 3.3 only) requirements may be modified or

、 waived in writing pending the review of the suppliers data by the affected product engineering office. 3.4 Shall meet all the requirements of the U.S. Government military specification MIL-L-46152-B (latest revision). It shall also be the suppliers responsibility to obtain and renew as required a q

、ualification number. The requirement to obtain a military qualification number may be waived in writing by the affected product engineering office. 3.5 It is the intent of this specification to discourage marginal product formulations. That is, lubricants designed with minimum cost additive packages

、 which require multiple attempts to obtain a single acceptable pass during engine testing. Verification engine sequence testing will be conducted at random to ensure that the product consistently meets the high quality level required for approval. If, after verification testing, a material fails to

、meet this specification, the supplier is required to run new tests and submit this second set of certified engine test data, from an ASTM monitored independent laboratory, which demonstrates passing values for all results in question. Failure by the supplier to satisfactorily reverify the questionab

、le values in a timely manner suing an ASTM monitored independent laboratory shall be considered grounds for rejection of the material in question.
