SCOPE The decal shall consist of a strong, flexible vinyl film, pre-coated with pressure sensitive adhesive and processed with compatible screen process pastes. The adhesive shall be pro
3、tected by a treated paper liner which shall be easily removable. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for decals used on vehicles to provide statement of compliance to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards or to provide display of transmission shift patterns. They are appli
4、ed to the painted surface by removing the paper liner and pressing firmly into place. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 MATERIAL Th
5、e decals shall be free of streaks, blisters, wrinkles, ragged edges and other surface imperfections which would make it unsuitable for the intended usage. The process pastes used should be such as to ensure adequate adhesion of background colors or copy to the base film. The appearance shall be glos
6、sy unless otherwise indicated on engineering drawing. The design and color shall be as specified on the applicable engineering drawing. The base film material shall be vinyl. 3.3 PAINT ADHESION The decal shall show no separation of process colors from base film after lightly scribing through color c
7、oats with a razor blade, firmly adhering strip of 3/4 in (19 mm) cellophane tape over scribe mark and removing tape at 180 angle with a quick snap. 3.4 SETTING TIME FOR NORMAL HANDLING The decal shall set sufficiently to permit normal handling immediately after application. 3.5 ADHESIVE STRENGTH 48
8、oz/in (525 N/m) width Test Method: ASTM D 1000 (applied to painted panel) except bonding time to be 16 h at 23 +/- 2 C. 9、(see para 3.5). No delamination, blushing, checking, cracking, or other form of failure (during exposure period or after panels are removed from cabinet and allowed to dry). Test Method: Place in humidity cabinet at 98 +/- 2% relative humidity and 38 +/- 1 C for 200 h after bonding time of 16 h at 2
10、3 +/- 2 C. 3.7 HEAT RESISTANCE Must meet minimum adhesive strength requirements (see para 3.5). No cracking or checking and only slight yellowing and no more than 1/64 in (0.4 mm) shrinkage as measured at adhered end of the adhesive strip. Test Method: Place in mechanical convection oven at 70 +/- 3
11、 C for 168 h. 3.8 VANDAL RESISTANCE After application to a clean panel and bonding time of 72 h at 23 +/- 2 C, the decal shall not allow removal in one piece and it shall deface the underlying surface when best attempt is made to physically remove the decal without a sharp tool. 5. 12、ON The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.1 PREPARATION OF TEST PANELS 5.1.1 Test Panels Smooth, phosphate coated CRLC steel 3 x 6 in (75 x 150 mm) x 0.036 - 0.042 in (0.91 - 1.07 mm). 5.1.2 Cleaning, Priming, and Painting See FLTM BI 103-02 for ESB-M32J100-A acrylic enamel topcoat. Follow suppliers recommendations for reducing, application, and baking procedure. 5.1.3 Application of Decal Transfer Follow manufacturers recommendations for applying transfer.
