2、 purge solvents used in purging liquid organic coatings from paint application equipment. Apparatus and Materials Required Liquid Paint Timer or other device for measuring time in seconds Pipette, 3mL pipettes (Fisher Scientific) Draw down bar. #20 bar from Paul N. Gardner Company (provides wet film
3、 of 2.0 mils) 30 cm x 15 cm x 2 mm thick glass panel. Clean and dry. Stand or object to hold the glass panel at a 45 degree angle. 4、panel held at a 45 angle Conditioning and Test Conditions All testing should be performed in a controlled, laboratory environment (23 +/- 2 oC and 50 +/-5% RH). The ambient temperature and relative humidity should be recorded during the testing. Method 1. Fill the pipette with well-mixed paint and t
5、hen dispense a thick line or bead of paint across the top portion of the horizontal glass panel leaving some room at the top of the panel. 6、 Use both hands, pull the drawn down bar down the glass panel in one steady stroke. 4. The paint should evenly spread over the glass. 7、the glass. 6. Place the glass panel at a 45 angle and allow the panel to “flash” for 2 minutes at ambient laboratory conditions. 7. Using a pipette drop the test solution at a rate of one drop per second for 10 seconds. Be sure to keep the pipette 25 mm (one inch) above the panel. For reproducible r
8、esults, drop the solvent in the same place every time. If required, increase the flash times to determine the effectiveness of the purge at removing drier films. 9、solvent to panel. 9. Adding solvent to panel at a rate of 1 drop-per-second for a total of 10 drops. 10、 solvent-to-paint contact. 10 drops - Successful test result 10 drops Unsuccessful test result 11. A successful solvent will remove paint from the area of contact when the paint film is between 2 3 mils wet (51 -76 microns). An unsuccessful solvent will not remove the paint. Record the ambient laboratory temperature and relative humidity as these variables can cause minor changes in results (day-to-day variance).
