2、OF RUST PREVENTIVE COMPOUNDS Application This test method is used to determine the solvent content of rust preventive compounds. Apparatus Required Mechanical Convection Oven Must be capable of maintaining 105 +/ - 2 C. Analytical Balance Precision +/ - 0.1 mg. Petri Dish 100 mm diameter with cover.
3、 The above apparatus is available from any reputable laboratory equipment supply house. Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on m aterial conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/ - 2 C and 50 +/ - 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to tes
4、ting and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Procedure 1. Weigh petri dish and cover to neare st mg and record as W D1 . 2. Place approximately 10 g of specimen into the dish and spread over bottom as a thin film. 3. Weigh the dish, cover and specimen and record as W D2 . 4.
5、 Remove the cover, invert and place the petri dish inside the cover. 5. Pl ace the dish, cover and specimen into a mechanical convection oven at 105 +/ - 2 C until a constant weight is obtained (W D3 ). 6、 Calculations . Initial weight of specimen = W i . Loss of specimen weight = W L . Weight of dish and cover = W D1 . Weight of d ish, cover and specimen before heating = W D2 . Weight of dish, cover and specimen after heating = W D3 (1) W i = W D2 - W D1 (initial weight of specimen) (2) W L = W D3 - W D2 (weight loss of specimen) (3) W L x 100 = percent solvent W i Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly.
