2、CULAR SIEVE BEADS Application This test method is used to determine the abrasion resistance of molecular sieve beads immersed in liquid. Apparatus Required Glass Jars and Metal Lids Wide mouth: 200 ml capacity - height 80 mm, 50 mm O.D. Alternate: 250 ml capacity - height 120 mm, 50 mm I.D. Source:

Box 6176 Atlanta, Georgia 30300 Mixer - Red Devil Model No. 30 paint conditioner Source: Red Devil Tools Union, New Jersey 07083 Jar Holder This is a modified jar holder fabricated from 25 mm thick plywood holding two jars in the shaker (see Figure 1). Gaskets - Made fro

4、m plain compressed sheet packing 1.5 mm thick. Funnel - Metal, glass, or polypropylene with 100 mm opening at the top. Screen - 100 mesh, 50 mm in diameter Oven Convection: capable of maintaining a temperature of 100 C and properly vented to exhaust trichlorethylene fumes. FORD LABORATORY TEST METHO

Graduate cylinder - 250 ml, 2 required Tared Beakers - Pyrex, 600 ml, 2 required Torsion Balance - 500 to 1000 g capacity accurate to +/ - 0.1 g Materials Required Solvent - trichlorethylene Conditioning and Test Conditions All t

6、est values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/ - 2 C and 50 +/ - 5 % relati ve humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Procedure 1. Place a gasket in each jar lid. 2. Place 13

7、0 ml of the molecular sieve beads in a tared graduate and record sample weight to +/ - 0.1 g. 3. Transfer the sample to a jar and add enough trichlorethylene to completely immerse the beads in the liquid. The liquid should just cover the beads, leaving a free space in the top of the jar. Tighten lid

8、 securely to prevent leakage duri ng pulsating test. Invert jar for a few minutes to check for leaks. 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 with a second jar. 5. Place the jars in the jar holder side by side in the vertical position and aligned along plane A - A (see Figure 1). 6. Start shaker and all ow samples

9、to shake for 2 h (40 000 cycles). 7. Remove one jar from the shaker, insert the clean 100 mesh screen in the clean funnel and filter the sample through the funnel. Collect the trichlorethylene in a tared beaker. Rinse the jar and lid with cle an trichlorethylene and pour over the sample on the 100 m

10、esh screen. Pour clean trichlorethylene over the sample on the screen so that all material less than 100 mesh is washed into the beaker. 11、or 15 - 20 minutes and decant as much clear trichlorethylene as possible. 10. Place samples in an oven at 100 - 120 C until residue appears dry. Allow to dry at 100 C minimum for an additional one - half hour. 11. Remove samples and cool before weig hing. Note: This material is a desiccant and follo

12、wing the above drying operation must be protected from moisture absorption prior to weighing. 12. Weigh samples, record weights, and calculate loss as follows: % wt. loss = wt. of material less than 100 mesh in beaker x 100 sample weight Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly.
