2、 the amount of grease string which can be tolerated in assembly practices of areas such as wheel bearings where excessive stringiness will contaminate the brake lining, causing expensive service adjustment. Scope This method consists of removing a Timken bearing cup at a given rate from a grease cup
3、 and measuring the length of string. Apparatus Required The test apparatus shall consist of the following, as shown on attached sketch: 1. Drill Press - “Craftsman“ - Model No. 115-6962, or equivalent. 2. Timken Test Cup No. T-48651 (normally used with Timken lubricant tester) modified as shown in s
4、ketch. 3. Grease cup from Standard Laboratory Grease Working Machine, E.H. Sargent & Co. No. S-67078, or equivalent. 4. Spatula for packing and levelling grease in cup. 5. 6 inch metal scale for measuring length of string from Timken test cup. Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicat
5、ed herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. 6、 Technologies, Inc. Procedure 1. Place modified Timken test cup in drill press chuck and tighten (height is not important). 2. Adjust travel of drill press to 4 inches up and down. 3. Adjust return spring tension to 2 1/2 lb pull with 8/100 s to travel the 4 inches. 4. Fill grease worker cup with gr
7、ease to be tested and place cup on drill press adjustable table and tighten table to obtain .250 setting. (See sketch.) Grease to be tested at 75 +/- 5 F. 5. With the drill press travel in the down position, level the grease with a spatula to completely cover the Timken test cup. Release drill press
8、 hand wheel and measure length of string suspended from the bottom face of the Timken test cup. 6. Repeat test three times and report the average length of string. For wheel bearing grease, strings greater than 1/2 inch are not permissible. Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly.
