、 measures the flow rate of “wax-type“ rust preventive compounds at a specified temperature on a vertically-positioned electrocoated panel or sheet metal surface. Scope This method determines the suitability of a cavity wax rust preventive compound for providing optimum coverage into and over flanges

、, edges, and joints of vulnerable body areas. Apparatus and Materials Required Heating Plate Capable of conditioning a wax type rust preventive compound at 23 +/- 2 C. Thermostat Capable of maintaining 20 - 40 +/- 2 C. Motorized Stirrer Capable of stirring a wax-type rust-preventive compound at 1500

、 rpm. Thermometer To include the range of 20 and 40 C. Eppendorf Pipet 0.2 mL Test Panel Current production electrocoated coated (20 micrometre); automotive body steel; 100 x 320 mm (minimum). The test panel shall be scribed with a “start line“ across the width a minimum of 300 mm from one end of th

The surface shall be coated with 20 micrometers electrocoat and masked on top with a “start line“ across the width, a minimum of 300 mm from the end of the front side panel. The electrocoated test area has to be thermostatically controlled, capable of maintaining s

、pecified temperatures of 20 and 40 +/- 2 C. Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unles

、s otherwise specified. Procedure 1. Prepare the wax material for test by heating the test material to 23 +/-2 C and stirring for 15 minutes at this temperature. 2. Apply five 0.2 mL droplets of the test material with the Eppendorf pipet along the starting line on the electrocoated test area at 23 +/

、- 2 C within a time of 30 s. 3. Immediately stand the panel, or flow rate test apparatus, upright in a vertical position. 4. After 15 minutes, measure and record the average length of each wax run. 5. Repeat Steps 2 through 4 at a 40 +/- 2 C object temperature. Evaluation Report the average length of the 5 wax runs at each temperature in mm. Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly. Each party is responsible for determining proper use and handling in its facilities.
