Apparatus Required Mechanically Driven Crockmeter The Crockmeter has a cylindrical acrylic finger 16 mm diameter, which has a flat, smooth en

、 atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Modifications to the test method shall be employed when the area or size of the test specimen prevents normal contact of the surface to

、be tested. Modifications employed may include the use of foam between the Crockmeter finger and the crocking cloth, a shorter stroke, or other changes, providing the test closely duplicates the conventional Crockmeter test method. Modifications of the test method must be noted in detail on the test

、report. Procedure A. Fabrics 1. Cut two 25 x 150 mm specimens of the test sample in the warp (wales), weft (courses), and diagonal directions. Foam backing should be no more than 2 mm thick. If there is excess foam, it must be carefully removed to leave a maximum of 2 mm. 2. Fasten one of the warp t

、est specimens to the base of the Crockmeter so that it is flat and the long dimension is in the direction of rubbing. 3. Mount two 50 x 50 mm crockmeter cloths over the end of the finger of the Crockmeter with the weave oblique to the direction of rubbing. The second layer of crockmeter cloth is use

、d to prevent slippage of the primary crockmeter cloth during the test. 4. Move the finger back and forth through ten cycles across the test specimen at the rate of one complete cycle per second. 5. Remove the crockmeter cloth and measure and report in whole points any transference of color from the

、test specimen to the cotton fabric by using the AATCC Chart. Color transference caused by the sharp edge of the finger shall not be measured or reported. 6. Mount the other warp test specimen and wet the crockmeter cloth in distilled water and repeat Steps 3, 4, and 5. The transference of color shal

、l be measured after complete drying off. 7. Using the other test specimens cut in the weft and diagonal directions, repeat Steps 3 to 6. B. Thread 1. Mount the thread samples on the base of the Crockmeter by looping eight ends of thread 200 mm long around the sample retainer pin. 2. Perform test by

、following Steps 3 to 6 of procedure A while holding the thread under tension between the forefinger and thumb. To test the wet crocking fastness repeat Steps 1 to 4 using a crockmeter cloth wet in distilled water. The transference of color shall be measured after complete drying off.
