、e the flexural strength of paper - type boards used in the construction of automotive door and quarter trim panels. Apparatus Required Testing Machine The instrument used to a pply the load to the test specimen shall be capable of applying the load at a uniform rate and shall have a means of indicat
、ing the applied load at the instant of fracture to an accuracy of +/ - 2 %. Flexural Loading Device The fixture for supporting the t est specimen is shown in the sketch. The two parallel cylinders which rotate with the test specimen as it is flexed under load are attached to adjustable supports for
、obtaining the correct span. Test Specimens Two test specimens from each principal di rection of the board are required. The specimens shall be 3 x 12 inches with clean cut edges parallel to with 1/32 inch. The test specimens shall be conditioned for a minimum of 24 h at 50 +/ - 2 % relative humidity
、 and 72 +/ - 5 F before testing. FORD LABORATORY TEST METHOD BS 005-01 Page 2 of 2 Copyright 2000, Ford Globa l Technologies, Inc. Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/ - 2 C and 50 +/ - 5 % relative hu
、midity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Procedure 1. Adjust the supports of the loading fixture to the correct span for the thickness of the board as indicated by the material specification. 2. Place the test specimen over the e
、nd cylinders, leaving equal lengths project ing over the two ends. 3. Fasten the cylinder through which the load will be applied to the testing machine so the load will be applied to the specimen at midspan. 4. Apply the load at a uniform rate and at a speed which will fracture the test specimen i n
、 not less than 30 seconds nor more than 45 seconds. 5. Report the average load in pounds required to fracture the two test specimens cut from each of the two principal directions of the board. Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in th is document must be used and handled properly. Each party is responsible for determining proper use and handling in its facilities.
