、NER MATERIALS Application This method is used to measure the viscosity of adhesives, sealers, and sound deadeners of paste-like consistency. This method is applicable to both the solvent-release and the solvent-free materials, in either the as-received or aged condition. Apparatus Required Flow-Rate
、 Measuring Apparatus Refer to Figures 1, 2, and 3. Compressed Air Supply 600 kN/m2, with a delivery tube diameter of 6.25 mm. Manometer Accuracy of +/- 5 kN/m2. Balance Accuracy of +/- 0.05 g. Stop Watch Or equivalent timing device for measuring seconds. Thermostat Laboratory Forced-Air Circulation
、Oven Capable of maintaining temperatures up to 60 +/- 2 C. Procedure Preparation Of Test Material A. Viscosity as received: 1. Condition the sample for 24 h at 23 +/- 2 C. FORD LABORATORY TEST METHOD BV 103-01 Page 2 of 6 Copyright 2000, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. 2. Determine the viscosity at 2
、3 +/- 2 C. B. Viscosity after aging: 1. Fill the container (a 1 L can with a press-on lid) three-quarters full with the material under test, ensuring that the lid is closed tightly. 2. Condition the material for 336 h at the following aging temperatures, unless otherwise specified, and an additional
、 24 h at 23 +/- 2 C: aging temperature - solvent-release material 50 +/- 2 C aging temperature - solvent-free material 30 +/- 2 C 3. Determine the viscosity at 23 +/- 2 C. Test Procedure (Refer to Figures 1, 2, and 3) 1. Unless otherwise specified, place a 2 mm diameter nozzle “C“ into the cylinder.
、 Fill the cylinder “B“ with the material under test and place the plunger “D“ in position. 2. Screw the 2 cylinders together and connect the water jacket “H“ to the thermostat. 3. Heat the material to the required temperature (should be reached within 30 minutes). 4. Open the control valve “F“ and s
、et the test pressure as required by the applicable Engineering Material Specification. 5. After adjusting the pressure, turn off the compressed air and remove any of the material under test that has been discharged through the nozzle “C“. 6. Turn on the compressed air at the 2-way cock. Using the st
、op watch, record the time taken for 20 g of the material under test to be discharged through the nozzle. 7. Repeat the test procedure and report the average of 2 readings. Test Data Evaluation The test report should include: 1. Viscosity in seconds (i.e., the time taken for 20 g of material to be di
、scharged). 2. Test pressure in kN/m2 . 3. Nozzle size (internal diameter in mm). FORD LABORATORY TEST METHOD BV 103-01 Page 3 of 6 Copyright 2000, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. Description of Apparatus (Refer to Figures 1, 2 and 3) The apparatus consists of two (2) steel cylinders (“A“ and “B“) whi
、ch are filled with the material under test and then are screwed together. Discharge nozzles (“C“) of various sizes can be fitted to the apparatus. The nozzle size is as required by the applicable Engineering Material Specification. The apparatus is equipped also with a plunger (“D“). The upper cylin
、der (“A“) is connected to a compressed air supply via the control valve (“F“). The lower cylinder (“B“) is surrounded by a water jacket (“H“) and keeps the sample under test at constant temperature by means of the thermostat “G“.
