2、sed to determine volume change in adhesive and sealant materials due to processing conditions. Note: This procedure may be used in conjunction with FLTM BV 117-01, Water Absorption Test for Adhesives and Sealants. Apparatus Required Oven A mechanical convection oven capable of obtaining a metal temp

3、erature of 200 +/- 3 C on CRLC steel (0.89 mm) within 8 - 10 minutes. (Blue M Model No. POM-166A-GX or equivalent.) Materials Required Panel CRLC steel; 300 x 300 x 0.89 mm. Substrates 3 required, 100 x 25 x 1.14 mm, aluminum. Distilled or deionized water 20 micromhos/cm at 25 C maximum conductivity

4、 per ASTM D 1125. Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Weigh three 100 x 25 x 1.14 mm aluminum substrates to the nearest milligram in air (Wc) and in water. The difference in weights equals the volume of the substrate (Vc) e.g., 1 g weight differen

6、ce = 1 mL substrate volume. 2. Apply a semicircular bead of material approximately 8 mm radius down the center of each substrate (Figure 1). Cut off each bead on both ends (to eliminate “necking“) to provide a 50 mm length of material. Weigh each specimen to the nearest milligram in air and distille

7、d or deionized water. The difference in weights equals the volume of the original material and the substrate (V1). 3. Bake the specimens in a mechanical convection oven at a metal temperature of 135 +/- 3 C for 8 minutes. Specimens are to be baked in a horizontal position, centrally located and prot

8、ected from direct air flow. To assure the proper bake schedules, place the specimens on a 300 x 300 x 0.89 mm CRLC steel panel while in the oven. 4. Allow the specimens to cool to 23 +/- 2 C. Weigh each specimen to the nearest milligram in air (W2) and tap. The difference in weights equals the volum

9、e of the cured material and the substrate (V2). Note: Distilled or deionized water shall not be used. 5. Calculate the volume change as the percentage of the original volume as follows: Percent Volume Change = V 2 V 1 x 100 V1 Vc Where: Vc = Volume of aluminum substrate V1 = Volume of original mater

10、ial and substrate V2 = Volume of cured material and substrate 6. Repeat the above procedure except bake at a metal temperature of 205 +/-3 C for 30 minutes. 7. Report results from both Steps 5 and 6. Chemicals, materials, parts, and equipment referenced in this document must be used and handled properly.
