WASH RESISTANCE TEST FOR SEALERS AND ADHESIVES Application This method is used to evaluate the wash resistance of uncure

、d sealers and adhesives under conditions typical of the cleaner stage of the pre-treatment system. Apparatus Required High Pressure Washer A washer capable of pumping water between 10 and 60 +/- 3 C and maintaining a minimum pressure of 13,800 +/- 700 kPa (2000 +/- 100 psi) at the outlet nozzle when

、 used in conjunction with the type of nozzle specified. Pressure Gauge A gauge capable of measuring the specified pressure with a precision of +/- 2%. Spray Nozzle A 40040 flat spray nozzle (i.e. 40 wide angle flat spray pattern and 0.040 inch (1.016 mm) orifice) that could be connected to the outle

、t of the pump. Analytical Balance Minimum precision of +/- 0.01 g. Drying Oven An ASTM E 145 oven capable of maintaining 130 C. Ruler Camera Materials Required Substrate Test Panels Sealer/Adhesive Prelube Type and quantity per material specification or other relevant engineering documents. FORD LAB

、ORATORY TEST METHOD BV 116-03 Page 2 of 5 Copyright 2001, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. Conditioning and Test Conditions All test values indicated herein are based on material conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relative humidity for not less than 24 h prior to testi

、ng and tested under the same conditions unless otherwise specified. Procedure 1. Measure and record the weight of the lubricated substrate panel. This value is the Initial Lubricated Panel Weight, A. 2. Prepare a draw down sealer/adhesive bead of 30 mm x 200 mm x 1.5 mm on the panel. 3. Measure and

、record the total weight of the lubricated panel and the bead. This value is the Total Weight Before Pressure Wash, B. 4. Connect the nozzle to the pressure washer outlet (use water temperature and pressure as specified in relevant engineering documents). Spray water at the sealer/adhesive bead using

、 either Method A (Indirect Impingement) or Method B (Direct Impingement) as specified. Method A: Indirect Impingement Spray water at the panel such that the water fan is 45 to the area that is 25.4 mm from the bottom edge of the bead, as shown in Figure 1. The water fan should be 20.3 cm wide at poi

、nt of contact with the panel. The nozzle and the panel should be 30.5 cm apart. Maintain the spray for 120 seconds under these conditions. Method B: Direct Impingement Spray water at the panel such that the water fan is 90 to the area that is the center of the bead, as shown in Figure 2. The water f

、an should be 20.3 cm wide at point of contact with the bead. The nozzle and the panel should be 30.5 cm apart. Maintain the spray for 30 seconds under these conditions. 5. Dry the panel in the oven for 5 minutes at 130 +/- 2 C. 6. Measure and record the total dried weight of the panel and the bead.

、This value is the Total Weight After Pressure Wash, C. 7. Calculate and record the % sealer/adhesive weight loss as: %100 ABAC FORD LABORATORY TEST METHOD BV 116-03 Page 3 of 5 Copyright 2001, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. 8. Quantify the movement of the bead using Method A or Method B depending on

、 the type of impingement. Method A: Measurement for Indirect Impingement Distances D, E, and F as shown in Figure 1 are vertical bead movements taken at 50 mm, 100 mm and 150 mm from the left edge of the bead, respectively. The average bead movement will be the average of distances D, E, and F. Meth

、od B: Measurement for Direct Impingement Locations G, H, and I as shown in Figure 2 are 50 mm, 100 mm and 150 mm from the left edge of the bead, respectively. The average bead movement will be the average bead width calculated from measurements taken at locations G, H, and I. Report 1. Sealer/Adhesi

、ve identification including manufacturer, part number, etc. 2. Substrate panel identification including manufacturer, part number, size, cleaning, etc. 3. Conditioning procedure for test specimens prior to testing. 4. Type of prelube oil and quantity in mass per unit area (e.g. g/m2, mg/m2, mg/ft2,

、etc.). 5. Weight loss: Report measured values of A, B, C and calculated weight loss. 6. Average bead movement: Method A: Report measured values of D, E, F and their average. Method B: Report measured widths at locations G, H, and I and their average. 7. Photographs of the sealer/adhesive bead on the
