5、 Z89.1-1986.Vendors shall certify that each shipment meets this standard, and fortypes 3 and 4 they shall certify the hat or cap has been tested and meetsthe insulation resistance test as specified in Section 8.2, InsulationResistance Test, ANSI Z89.1-1986.3.1 MATERIALS: Materials used in the constr

7、ESIGN REQUIREMENTS:3.2.1 SHELL: The shell shall be dome-shaped or one piece seamlessconstruction, with smooth, hard surface. Where reinforcingribs are used, they shall be so designed so as not to trapimpact forces. The hat shell shall have a continuous brim asan integral extension of the dome, with
8、the hat held in ahorizontal position, the brim shall slope downward, the widthof the brim shall not be less than 1-1/4 inches and not morethan 3 inches measured from the inside edge of shell. The hatshell shall also have a slot on each side, so arranged toprovide for attachment of a visor or hearing
9、 protector muff.Types 2,4 and 5 cap shells shall not include a brim extendingforward from the crown not less than 1-1/2 inches and shall benot less than 5-1/2 inches in width.3.2.2 HEADBAND: The headband shall be adjustable. It shall coverthe size range of commercial hat sizes 6-5/8 through 7-5/8.Th
10、e surface of the headband in contact with the wearers headshall not be less than 1-1/4 inches in width. The headbandshall be artificial leather conforming to Type II, Class 3 ofFederal Specifications CCCC-418, or genuine vegetable tannedleather. The headband shall be smoothly finished on thesurface
11、which will contact the head. Sweatband shall beremovable for replacement when necessary.3.2.3 CROWN STRAPS: Crown straps shall be of closely woven webbingor suitable material with high tensile strength and low totalelongation. Cloth straps may be adjustable or nonadjustable.These straps when properl
12、y laced or assembled shall form acradle for supporting the hat on the wearers head. The crownstraps act as a shock absorber when the hat is subjected to ablow. The crown straps must be designed so that it isimpossible to have a clearance between the top of the wearershead and the shell of less than
13、1-1/4 inches.3.2.4 CLEARANCE: To assure proper protection when the hat or cap isbeing worn, the crown straps shall be so designed as to providea minimum of 1-1/4 inches clearance between the top of thewearers head and the crown of the shell.3.2.5 CROWN LACE: The crown lace shall always be tied with
14、a squareknot. If the entire suspension is held in the shell by a lace,the lace shall also be tied in a square knot.3.2.6 WEIGHT: The weight of each hat shall not exceed 15 ouncescomplete with suspension, and headband exclusive of winterliner or chin strap.Manufacturing StandardsFord Motor Company198

16、d firm,and shall not permanently distort during an exposure ofat least four hours to any temperature in the range 30 Cto 70 C (22 F to 158 F) nor shall the materials besignificantly affected by exposure to ultravioletradiation. The materials shall meet the impactresistance of ANSI Code Z80.1-1987 wh
17、en tested in thetemperature range 18 C to 49 C (0 F to 120 F).4. GENERAL INFORMATION:4.1 INSTRUCTIONS: Printed instructions shall be furnished with each hator cap explaining the proper method of wearing and adjusting it.The sheet shall be stowed in the hat or cap so as to remain whereplaced until in
18、tentionally removed.4.2 MARKING: Each hat or cap shall be identified on the inside of theshell with the name of the manufacturer. The ANSI designation (ANSIZ89.1-1986) and class lettering shall be a minimum of 1/8“ high.5. APPROVAL OF NEW SUPPLIERS: Helmets submitted by new manufacturers tothis stan
19、dard must have laboratory and shop trial approvals.Recommendations for the addition of new manufacturers to theManufacturing Standards Bulletin List (ASL) must be made by theappropriate division standards activity in writing to the PlantEngineering Office, Manufacturing Staff. All supporting data mustaccompany the written request.The Plant Engineering Office, and the Environmental Health and SafetyManager, Employee Relations Staff, will review requests for approval.
