11、l Specifications for Spaced Thread Tapping ScrewsType Z Cross RecessDimensions and method of penetration gauging.RECESS PENETRATION GAUGINGThe penetration depth of the gauge shall be measured from the reference plane by using a dial gauge.NOTE 1: The penetration depth of the depth gauge (minimum and
12、 maximum dimensio n) is indicated in Tables B1,B2 and B3 of this appendix. It is the test dimensions for the usability of the cross recess. A typical recess penetrationgauge is shown below.NOTE 2: The point of the gauge is shown in Figure B5 for recess type Z. A sleeve serves to guide the gauge and
13、fixthe reference plane. This plane passes through the point of intersection of the recess wings and the top surface of thescrew head. It corresponds thus to the surface of a screw with flat head. In the case of crowned screw heads, it lies belowthe crown in the transition area from the recess wings
14、to the surface of the head. For these screw heads, the referenceplane is fixed with the help of the bearing surfaces of the gauge sleeve.TYPICAL RECESS PENETRATION GAUGENOTE: The zero and control position of the depth gauge can be found on a flat surface.FORD WORLDWIDE FASTENER STANDARDDate: 1996-10
