2、onentpai nt system for use on thermoplastic exterior parts subject to polarsolvents, abrasion and limited sunlight.2. APPLICATIONThi s specification was released orginally for cowl leaf screens. Thecoatin g described must have superior resistance to windshield washersol vent. The paint and crosslink

3、ing material must be blended perinstructions to achieve satisfactory properties.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 QUALITY SYSTEM REQUIREMENTSMaterial suppliers and part producers must conform to Quality SystemRequirements, QS-9000. Material specification r equirements are to beused fo r initial qualification of ma

4、terials. A Control Plan forong oing production verification is required. This plan must bereviewed and approved b y the relevant Ford Materials activity and/orFor d Supplier Technical Assistance (STA) prior to production partssubmission. Appropriate statistical tools must be used to analyzepr ocess/

5、product data and assure consistent processing of thematerials.Part producers using this material in their products, must use Fordapproved materials and must conform to a process control plan whichhas been approved by STA and/or the relevant Materials Activity.3.2 INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMETRY AND/OR TH

6、ERMAL ANALYSISFord Motor Company, at its option, may conduct infrared and/ortherma l analysis of material/parts supplied to this specification.The IR spectra and thermograms established for i nitial approval shallconst itute the reference standard and shall be kept on file at thedesignated material

7、laboratory. All samples sha ll produce IR spectraand thermograms that correspond to the reference standard when testedunder the same conditions.ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONWSB-M16J16-AWP 3948-b Page 2 of 9 3.3 CONDITIONING AND TEST CONDITIONSAll test values indicated herein are based on ma ter

8、ial conditioned ina control led atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relativehumidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under thesame conditions unless otherwise specified.3.4 COMPOSITION3.4.1 Vehicle: Waterborne acrylic emulsion with minor amounts ofadditives and surfactan ts to

9、 provide good pigment dispersionand substrate adhesion.3.4.2 Ultraviolet Light Absorber(s)/Stabilizer(s): The coatingshall contain these materials in amounts sufficient toprovide long-term durability for the coating.3.4.3 Pig ments: The pigment blend shall provide a satisfactorycolor m atch to the F

10、ord master panel on file and meet therequirements of this specification for durability.3.4.4 Crosslinker: Polyfunctional Aziridine Crosslinker3.4.5 Volatile: The proportion of solvents in the paint shall beformulated that the film will level out satisfactorilywit hout sagging, popping or roughness a

11、fter baking whenapplied within the specified film thickness range.3.4.6 Specific Composition: The supplier shall furnish such dataupon request.3.5 PHYSICAL PROPERTIES3.5.1 Volatile Organic Compou nds: Allowable weight at applicationviscosity.(U.S. EPA Method 24 - minus water)All colors individually

12、shall not exceed 0.60 kg/L.3.5.2 Viscosity: Application(FLTM BI 111-01)Shall be established by the supplier on the initial approvedproduction batch. Tolerance shall be +/- 5 s.3.5.3 pH(ASTM E 70 at application viscosity)Shall be established by the supplier on the initial approvedproduction batch. To

Thepaint must be free from settling which is not dispersed bynorm al agit

The components must be easily blendedtogether during this period.Stability (Blended and adjusted to application viscosity)24 hours at plant environment temperature and humidity.The coating must remain in the viscosity range specified inpa ra 3.5.2 and meet all requirements of this specificati

15、onfor the 24 hour period.3.6 PREPARATION OF TEST PANELS3.6.1 SubstrateAll test specimens shall be injection molded plaques havinga nominal thickness of 3 +/- 0.5 mm.3.6.2 Substrate PreparationAll spec imens shall be free of mold release agents, fingerprints, oils, dirt and any other detrimental surf

16、acecontamination.3.6.3 Primer, (if required)Ap ply currently approved adhesion promoter or an approvedprimer to the recommended film thickness. Cure permanufacturers recommendation.3.6.4 Color Topcoat 20 - 30 micrometreApply sufficient topcoat to at least hiding film thickness.Cure panels per manufa

17、cturers recommendation.3.7 APPEARANCE3.7.1 GeneralThe coating shall exhibit no craters, pinholes, solventpopping, seediness, abnormal roughness, or excessive flow.3.7.2 Color(FLTM BI 109-01)Shall match the Ford master panel after being prepared asdescribed in para 3.6.ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICAT

20、lan submitted to theinvolved Ford activities.3.7.5 Ultraviolet Light TransmissionMeasure the light tramsmittance of the coating a t the minimumand maximum dry hiding film thicknesses listed in para 3.7.4at 400 nm using a Lambda 6 Integrating Sphere spectrometer.If the light transmission exceeds 1.0

21、%, then determine thefil m thickness required to lower the transmission to lessthan 1.0 %. Record thi s value on product data sheets and onthe Control Plan submitted to the involved Ford activites.3.8 FILM PROPERTIESAll film properties are based on the proper preparation per para 3.6and after 72 h a

23、ICATIONWSB-M16J16-AWP 3948-b Page 5 of 9 3.9 RESISTANCE REQUIREMENTS3.9.1 Water Immersion 240 h(FLTM BI 104-01)Te st Method: Immerse the test plaque or part for 240 h indistil led or deionized water maintained at 32 +/- 2 C asdescri bed in FLTM BI 104-01. Remove plaque/part from thewater and immedia

24、tely scribe an “X“ through the finish to thesubstrate. Dry the scribed area with either a paper towel,cloth or air (oil free) and immediately apply wi th firm thumbpressure, a minimum of 1300 mm2 of 3M #898 tape. Remove thetape by pulling one end at a 90 deg angle at moderate speed.The following con

25、ditions shall be basis for rejection:. Removal of paint beyond 1.6 mm from any scribe line. 31、n must be equivalent inal l characteristics to the material upon which approval wasoriginally granted.Pri or to making any change in the properties, composition,constr uction, color, processing or labeling of the materialorig inally approved under this specification, whether or not suchchange s affe

32、ct the materials ability to meet the specificationrequir ements, the Supplier shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology andthe affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposed changesand obtain the written approval of the Materials Engineeringactivity. Test data, test samples and a new code identif

33、ication areto be submitted with the request.Substance restrictions imposed by law, regulations or Ford, apply tothe materials addressed by this document. 34、of 9 4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALSMate rials defined by this specification must have prior approval by theresponsible Materials Engineeri ng activity. Suppliers desiring approval ofthei r materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from theaffect ed Purchasing, Design and Materials Engineering

35、 activity. Uponrequest, the Supplier shall submit to the affected Materials Engineeringactivity a completed copy of their laboratory test reports, signed by aqualified and authorized representative of the test faci lity, demonstratingfull compliance with all the requirements of this specification (t

36、estresults, not nominal values), the material designation a nd code number, andtest specimens for Ford evaluation. Fords engineering approval of amateri al will be based on its performance to this specification and on anassessment of suitability for intended processes and/or applications. Uponapprov al, the material will be added to the Engineering Material ApprovedSource List.
