SCOPEThi s specification defines

、the sealing requirements for specific sealedlamp s ocket applications using a non-drying, asbestos-free mastic pottingcompou nd consisting of a synthetic and natural oil base with other fillermaterials.2. APPLICATIONThis spe cification was released originally for material used as a masticsea ler in

、lamp socket applications to provide sealing properties whenexposed to weathering condition s on vehicles. This material does not dry, crack or sag after extended use and is compatible with the socketcomponents to which it comes in contact.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 STATISTICAL PROCESSSupplie rs must conform

、to the requirements of Ford Quality SystemStand ard Q-101. A mutually acceptable Control Plan as describedtherein is required for material/source approval. Appropriatestatist ical tools must be used to analyze process/product data sothat variation in the final product is continuously reduced.3.2 INF

、RARED SPECTROPHOTOMETRY AND/OR THERMAL ANALYSISFord Motor Company, at its option, may conduct infrared and/ortherma l analysis of material/parts supplied to this specification. The IR spectra and thermograms established for i nitial approval shallconst itute the reference standard and shall be kept o

、n file at thedesignated material laboratory. All samples sha ll produce IR spectraand thermograms that correspond to the reference standard when testedunder the same conditions.3.3 CONDITIONING AND TEST CONDITIONSAll test values indicated herein are based on ma terial conditioned ina control led atm

、osphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % relativehumidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested under thesame conditions unless otherwise specified.ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONWSB-M18P15-AWP 3948-b Page 2 of 5 3.4 SAG AND WEATHERING RESISTANCESha ll not sag, dry, crack or separate oil

、 when subjected to thefollowing conditions.3.4.1 2 h at - 40 +/- 1 C3.4.2 2 h at 93 +/- 1 C3.4.3 100 h at 70 +/- 1 CTest Method:. Prepare and test a minimum of three test panels per testcondition. Apply a ribbon of ma terial 13 x 200 x 7 mm to a clean CRSpanel. Cut off the ribbon on both ends to eli

、minate necking. Scribe the panel to mark the initial position of thematerial. Position the panel horizontally and subject the panel tothe environments listed above. Examine the panel after the exposure and note anydeleterious effects.3.5 EXPANSION/SHRINKAGETest Temperature Volume Expansion/Shrinkage

Fill an ointment tin (53 mm O.C. x 40 mm deep) with thetest material. Avoid entrapment of air. Record the depth of the test material prior to exposure(D1) within +/- 1 mm

、. Expose the prepared sample to the above test temperaturesfor 1 h, 6 h, and 6 days. Immediately upon removal from the test temperature, measurethe height of the test material (D2). Allow the sample to cool to 23 +/- 2 C for 4 h minimum andmeasure the material height (D3).ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIF
