SCOPE Th
3、e material defined by these specifications are highly reactive moisture sensitive solvent/resin blend adhesion promoting primers. 2. APPLICATION These specifications were originally released for priming the metal flange of the vehicle openings (windshields, backlites, and side) in preparation for on
4、e component urethane adhesives; i.e. WSB-M2G316-B, and WSS-M2G316-B2/B3/B4/B5. The primer is referred to as Adhesion Primer Painted Metal in the WSB-M2G316-B, and WSS-M2G316-B2/B3/B4/B5 specification. The primer is applied only to painted metal surfaces as approved by the responsible Materials Engin
5、eering Activity. The primer can be manually or robotically brush applied and robotically spray applied. WSB-M2G234-C shall be used in assembly plants with non-silane based clearcoat chemistries. It must not be used with silane based chemistries. WSB-M2G234-C2 shall be used in assembly plants with si
6、lane based clear coat systems only. It must not be used with other paint chemistries. (Reference para 4.8) WSB-M2G234-C3 shall be used in assembly plants where data has shown a compatibility with that plants clearcoat chemistry. (Reference para 4.9). These materials were originally released for some
7、 carbamate paint chemistries (Reference para 4.9). 2.1 MANUFACTURING PROCESS RECOMMENDATION These primers are moisture sensitive and require special handling for manual and automated processes as outlined in Table 1 and Table 2. The process parameters listed in Table 1 and Table 2 cover the critical
8、 elements for these materials and are not all inclusive. Please consult with Materials Engineering for any questions. Approved suppliers are responsible for maintaining the accuracy and relevancy of these process parameters (in their Process Standard). Approved suppliers must submit any changes to t
9、hese process parameters in a timely manner (within 30 days) for review and approval by Materials Engineering. Apply a 6.5 mm diameter bead of adhesive along the primed glass coupon surface. Within 5 minutes after adhesive application, positi
16、on the adhesive on the glass coupon in contact with the primed metal surface. Maintain a 5 mm nominal adhesive bondline thickness. . Condition assembly at room temperature for 72 h prior to test or environmental aging. Assemblies tested at -9 C and 43 C shall be maintained at temperature for 2 h min
17、 prior to test. After environmental aging, maintain the assemblies at room temperature for 4 h minimum prior to test. . Determine the adhesion in a tensile machine having a jaw separation rate of 25 mm/ minute. Report strength value and mode of failure. Refer to SAE J1529 for sample fixture and othe
18、r pertinent test information. NOTE: Any new primer must be tested for adhesion properties. After curing, the material must be relatively non-odorous. 3.9 ASH CONTENT, BASED ON SOLIDS WEIGHT, max 55% Test Method: Place the crucible containing the solids residue in a cool muffle furnace. Slowly heat to and maintain at 760 +/- 30 C for 1 h. Cool in a desiccato
21、r, weigh, and calculate the ash content. 3.10 WEIGHT PER VOLUME (ASTM D 816) The weight tolerance for any one supplier shall be +/- 0.043 kg/L based on the weight of the original approved production sample (see para 4.3). 22、trolled Copyright 2007, Ford Global Technologies, LLC Page 4 of 8 3.11 HIDING POWER The primer when brush and/or spray applied 0.075 mm to 0.130 mm film thickness shall completely blackout a white painted surface. 3.12 BRUSHABILITY/SPRAYABILITY The primer when hand brushed and/or sprayed on white pa
23、inted metal surfaces shall level with no evidence of brush marks, voids, or bare spots to the extent that the painted undersurface is visible. The material under test shall be equal to or better than the current same supplier approved production material for smoothness when applied under identical c
24、onditions. 3.13 DRYING RATE, max WSB-M2G234-C 10 minutes WSB-M2G234-C2 30 minutes WSB-M2G234-C3 10 minutes Test Method: Test apply a hand brushed or sprayed application 0.075 to 0.130 mm film of primer on 25 mm wide to a 75 x 75 mm clean white painted metal panel. To determine the primer drying rate
25、, immediately and at rapid intervals, dab the primer film with a wad of absorbent cotton. Observe if any of the cotton fibers adhere to the primed surface. Record the drying rate, as the time elapsed from the initial primer application until the cotton fibers do not adhere to the primer. Room temper
26、ature condition is required. 3.14 MIGRATION STAINING None (FLTM BU 105-01) Test Method: Expose the painted panel prepared in para 3.13 for a total of 110 h in the Flourescent Sunlamp Cabinet identified in FLTM BU 105-01. 3.15 OPEN TIME The material, upon being applied to the painted metal, shall be
27、dry to the touch prior to urethane ( WSB-M2G316-B) application. The material must have a minimum of 30 minutes dry time prior to urethane ( WSB-M2G316-B) application. Maximum open time shall not exceed 110 h and primer applied surfaces shall be kept free of contamination (e.g. dirt, heavy dust, oils
28、, grease, alcohol, etc.) 3.16 STORAGE STABILITY Shall be stored at ambient room temperature below 35 C, away from all sources of heat such as ovens, direct sunlight etc. The material should not be stored outside. Under these storage conditions, the maximum shelf life of the material in unopened cont
29、ainers shall be six (6) months from date of manufacturer. The supplier must label each container to indicate the expiration date of the material. Material may not be used after the expiration date unless the supplier has given written documentation to Materials Engineering and the affected Manufactu
30、ring Plant that the material conforms to requirements outlined in the material control plan. The supplier shall also indicate in the letter the number of additional days the material will be usable. When stored at temperatures below 23 C, it must be conditioned at 23 +/- 2 C for 48 h prior to use. E

The use of alcohol or alcohol containing solvents is pr
32、ohibited for cleanup or other uses. 3.18 QUALITY The material shall be a smooth, homogenous mixture free from foreign materials and properties detrimental to normal production operations. 3.19 NON-INTERCHANGEABILITY OF MATERIALS - GLASS BONDING APPLICATIONS ONLY Only approved urethane adhesives and
33、primers from the same production (supplier) source shall be used in conjunction with one another. See related materials for use (para 5.5). 3.20 FUNCTIONAL APPROVAL Materials being evaluated for approval to this specification shall be subjected to a production trial. Functional trial results must be
34、 approved by the affected assembly operation and Design Engineering. Results shall be made available to Materials Engineering prior to material approval and release. 5. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this sp
35、ecification. 5.1 FLASH POINT -7 C (ASTM D 56, Tag closed cup) 5.2 FLAMMABILITY AND/OR TOXICITY This material represents a potential fire and/or health hazard. The Manufacturing Engineering Department shall notify both the Plant Security and the Safety Units of its presence in the Plant to assure tha
36、t proper fire and/or health precautions are provided. The location in which it is used or stored shall be included in the notifications. 5.3 WEIGHT PER VOLUME Materials conforming to this specification and found satisfactory in production, range from 0.90 - 1.20 kg/L. 5.4 MATERIAL HANDLING This prim
37、er is moisture sensitive and dry air or a nitrogen blanket should be utilized in production to preclude contact with atmospheric moisture. This body primer must be agitated prior to use to preclude settling of solids content; agitate a minimum of 30 minutes for brush application and a minimum of 60
38、minutes for spray application. The primer must be agitated by a recirculating system operated at low pressure as required during usage. 40、ncured material can be satisfactorily removed using Solvent Emulsion Cleaner M5B228-A(F). 5.7 SPRAY EQUIPMENT 5.7.1 When spray applying, the solvent purge solution must not contaminate the primer that is applied to the vehicle. 5.7.2 If in-line heaters are used to raise the temperature of the primer
41、, the temperature must not exceed 30 C. (If 30 C is exceeded, primer could cure in-line causing filter clogging and system failures.) 5.7.3 Selection of airless or air atomized spray equipment must be approved by Vehicle Operations and Advanced Vehicle Technology. 5.8 SILANE BASED PAINT CHEMISTRY Ma
42、terial approved to WSB-M2G234-C2 was originally released for use with DuPont Generation IV Clearcoat. Materials approved to WSB-M2G234-C are compatible with paint systems other than DuPont Generation IV Clearcoat. 5.9 OTHER CLEARCOAT CHEMISTRIES Material(s) approved to WSB-M2G234-C3 was originally r
43、eleased for use with PPG Carbamate chemistry clearcoat. However, materials approved to this specification can potentially be used with other clearcoat technologies.
