SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a low carbon steel coated with an aluminum-silicon alloy produced by the hot-dip process. 2. APPLICATION This specification

、was released originally for parts requiring a This combination of heat and corrosion resistant properties such as mufflers and tail pipes. Three coating grades are available: A1 Light (wiped) coat - used on parts requiring severe forming or deep drawing and spun parts such as the internal high frequ

、ency tubes of mufflers which have spun reduced sections. A2 Regular coat - used on parts requiring flat stamping, light forming, or shallow drawing such as the shell, heads, baffles, and straight tubes of mufflers. A3 Thick coat - used for parts similar to above but requiring longer term corrosion r

、esistance properties. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 FABRICATION The quality level of steel supplied to manufacture a specific c

、omponent is to be negotiated between the manufacturing activity and the steel supplier. Acceptance of subsequent orders by the steel supplier, for a given component at the agreed upon quality level, implies that all steel supplied will be of a comparable quality level and will form that part satisfa

、ctorily as defined by the manufacturing activity. Tube weld properties e.g. drift, flare and crushing shall be in accordance with the corresponding uncoated tube processing route and material grade. 8、logies, Inc. 3.3 BASE METAL BEND TEST The bend test specimen specified in para 3.9 shall stand being bent at room temperature through 180 flat on itself without fracture of the base metal. The bend test may be made on coated material or after the coating has been stripped from the sample. 3.4 COATIN

、G The coating shall be applied to the base metal by the hot-dip process. The coating bath analysis shall be: Silicon 5 - 11% Iron 4.5% max Other Impurities 0.5% max Aluminum Remainder 3.5 COATING MASS, g/m2 min (ASTM A 428 see also A 463 for sample procedure) Triple Spot Total Single Spot Total Both

、 Sides Both Sides A1 80 60 A2 120 90 A3 150 115 3.6 SURFACE FINISH The material shall be uniformly coated and free from defects such as blisters, flux and uncoated spots. The coated sheets shall be free from any organic coating or surface material that will adversely affect welding. For the purpose

、of weldability material with coating thickness greater then .035 mm shall be considered non weldable quality. 3.7 SALT SPRAY TEST (ASTM B 117) The salt spray requirements shall be as follows: A1 72 h A2 120 h A3 168 h At the end of the specified period, parts shall be considered to fail in the salt

、spray test if the coatings have more than six rust spots visible to the unaided eye for any 0.1 m2, or any rust spot larger than 1.5 mm in diameter on significant surfaces. 13、END TEST The bend test specimen specified in para 3.8 shall stand being bent at room temperature through 180 over a diameter equal to two times the thickness of the specimen, without flaking or peeling on the outside surface of the bend. Flaking of coating within 6.0 mm of the edge of the test speci

、men shall be disregarded. A vice with smooth jaws, and operated by hand, shall be used for making the bend test unless the gauge is such as to render this impracticable, in which case any practicable means may be used. 3.9 BEND TEST SPECIMEN Bend test specimens are to be 50 mm to 100 mm in width and

、 shall be cut not less than 50 mm from the side and 100 mm from the end of the sheet or coil which is coated. 4. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. 4.1 Unless otherwise specified on the Engineering Drawing, the heat affected zone of the continuous longitudinal tube weld shall be protected by means of an aluminum repair process to meet minimum salt spray requirements.
