SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a alloyed nodular iron, with a well tempered martensitic matrix. 2. APPLICATION

3、 This specification was released originally for materials used in the production of piston rings. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2

4、 CHEMICAL COMPOSITION (weight %, ladle analysis) Carbon (total) 3.10 - 3.70 Silicon 2.00 - 2.60 Phosphorus max 0.10 Sulphur max 0.05 Chromium 0.15 - 0.35 Manganese 0.60 - 0.90 Molybdenum 0.15 - 0.35 Nickel 0.70 - 1.10 Magnesium 0.02 - 0.07 Carbon equivalent and alloying elements shall be controlled

5、within the above range to accommodate the ring section, size and method of casting (static/centrifugal are acceptable). 6、, Ford Global Technologies, Inc. 3.3 HARDNESS (ASTM E 18) The hardness of the finished ring shall be 100 - 108 HRB. These readings to be taken (1) adjacent to the gap, (2) 90 degrees to the gap and (3) opposite the gap on the flat side of the rings. An average of these three hardness readings is req

7、uired to determine the hardness value of a tested ring. Any other position will be within 2 Rockwell B. 3.4 MICROSTRUCTURE (ASTM A 247) Graphite: Uniformly distributed nodules (ASTM A 247), form I and II, 90 % min. Matrix: Tempered martensite. Massive carbides shall not exceed 5 % in any field viewe

8、d at 100X. No free ferrite is allowable. 3.5 QUALITY The castings shall be of high quality nodular iron and must be uniform throughout as to composition and mechanical properties. They shall be free from porosity, blowholes, chilled areas or any other physical imperfections detrimental to the fabric
