8、nd eutectic segregation/depletion. Gas holes/porosity and shrinkage porosity assessment levels, visual and/or radiographic (ASTM E 155) methods, shall be subject of the control plan. 3.3.2 Microstructure The microstructure shall consist of primary alpha aluminum, alpha aluminum-silicon eutectic and

9、inter-metallic constituents. The silicon component of the eutectic shall be rounded which indicates modification. 3.4 MECHNICAL PROPERTIES Tensile and compression test samples shall be separately poured at the same time and from the same metal as the castings they represent, or alternatively and whe

13、will be subjected to heat treatment to achieve the required mechanical properties. The thermal treatment may include a solution heat treatment, generally at 450 C to 510 C for 2 to 12 hours, followed by an artificial ageing treatment, generally at 225 C to 255 C for 2 to 4 hours. When heat treatment

14、 is required, treatment parameters shall form part of the Control Plan for the individual component.
