2、pplied to iron and steel.2. APPLICATIONThi s specification was released originally for a coating applied to thelower compression ring on automotive pistons.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 STATISTICAL PROCESSSupplie rs must conform to the requirements of Ford Quality SystemStand ard Q-101. A mutually acceptable C

3、ontrol Plan as describedtherein is required for material/source approval. Appropriatestatist ical tools must be used to analyze process/product data sothat variation in the final product is continuously reduced.3.2 COATINGProduced by conversion of the metal surface to black iron oxide.3.3 COATING TH

4、ICKNESSThe coating is a combination of etching and an oxide formation withessentially no build-up on the part.3.4 CORROSION PROTECTIONParts shall be dipped i n a rust preventive oil after treatment. Therust pr eventive oil must meet the requirements of a current Fordmateria l specification. Suitable

5、 oils may be found in the M7Ccategory of Ford Engineering Materials Specifications.3.5 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITYAll materials supplied to this specification must be equivalent inal l characteristics to the material upon which approval wasoriginally granted.ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONWSE-M6P1-B

7、shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology andthe affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposed changesand obtain the written approval of the Materials Engineeringactivity. Test data, t est samples and a new code identification areto be submitted with the request.Substance restrictions imposed by

8、 law, regulations or Ford, apply tothe materials addressed by this document. The restrictions aredefined in Engineering Material Specification WS S-M99P9999-A1, unlessa different suffix (e.g., A2 or A3) is specified on the engineeringdocument for the application.4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALSThis specific

9、ation is intended to define the performance and/or propertiesof finished parts or systems of combined materials. An EngineeringMaterial Approved Source listin g is not applicable for this specification.Produc t Engineering materials referenced in this document and/or theaffected engineering drawing,

10、 which require prior Engine ering approval, aresh own in the Engineering Material Approved Source List under thespecification cited.5. GENERAL INFORMATIONThe information given below is provided for clarification and assistancein meeting the requirements of this specification.5.1 METHODThe following has been found to produce a satisfactory oxide finish.Place parts in a steam atmosphere furnace at approximately 540 C for30 minutes.
