2、twith a sy nthetic rubber binder secured equally on both sides of a lowcarbon steel core.2. APPLICATIONThis specification was released originally for material used for exhaustmanifold gaskets where a material with high compressive strength at hightemperatures is required.3. REQUIREMENTSNote : All te

3、sts shall be conducted in accordance with ASTM F 104 Type 7material unless otherwise specified. The requirements of this specificationare va lid for gasket material of 0.7 to 1.6 mm thickness. Test specimensare to be selected from finished gaskets when practicable.Prior to testing the materials shal

4、l be conditioned in an oven at 100 +/-2 C for 1 h and allowed to cool to 21 - 30 C in a desiccator containinganhydrous calcium chloride.3.1 STATISTICAL PROCESSSupplie rs must conform to the requirements of Ford Quality SystemStand ard Q-101. A mutually acceptable Control Plan as describedtherein is

5、required for material/source approval. Appropriatestatist ical tools must be used to analyze process/product data sothat variation in the final product is continuously reduced.3.2 INFRARED SPECTROPHOTOMETRY AND/OR THERMAL ANALYSISFord Motor Company, at its option, may conduct infrared and/ortherma l

6、 analysis of material/parts supplied to this specification.The IR spectra and thermograms established for i nitial approval shallconst itute the reference standard and shall be kept on file at thedesignated material laboratory. All samples sha ll produce IR spectraand thermograms that correspond to

14、o SteelTest Method: A 16 mm I D x 38 mm OD test specimen is clamped between2 discs of 13.5 mm ID x 50 mm steel plates (maximum thickness 1.57mm) backed by 13 mm steel plates. A 13 mm steel bolt is insertedthrough the hole and a nut put on it. Tighten the bolt to 79 N.m.Heat the assembly to 149 +/- 3

15、 C for 5 h. Remove and allow to cool toro om temperature. The specimen shall come off the metal plateswi thout tearing and the metal plates must show no evidence ofcorrosion.3.13 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITYAll materials supplied to this specification must be equivalent inal l characteristics to the mat

Test data, t est samples and a n

18、ew code identification areto be submitted with the request.Substance restrictions imposed by law, regulations or Ford, apply tothe materials addressed by this document. The restrictions aredefined in Engineering Material Specification WS S-M99P9999-A1, unlessa different suffix (e.g., A2 or A3) is sp

19、ecified on the engineeringdocument for the application.4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALSMat erials defined by this specification must have prior approval by theresponsible Materials Engineeri ng activity. Suppliers desiring approval ofthe ir materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from theaffe

20、c ted Purchasing, Design and Materials Engineering activity. Uponrequest, the Supplier shall submit to the affected Materials Engineeringactivity a completed copy of their laboratory test reports, signed by aqualified and authorized representative of the test faci lity, demonstratingful l compliance

21、 with all the requirements of this specification (testresults, not nominal values), the material designation a nd code number, andtes t specimens for Ford evaluation. In addition to meeting therequi rements of this specification, the materials will be assessed forsuita bility for intended applications as part of the approval process.Upo n approval, the material will be added to the Engineering MaterialApproved Source List.
