SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a coolant concentrate composed essentially of monoethylene glyco
3、l and suitable corrosion inhibitors. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for material which, when mixed with water, shall be a satisfactory fluid for automotive engine cooling systems that contain aluminum engine components and aluminum radiators as well as brass and ferrous co
4、mponents. This material is for both initial fill and service use. 3. REQUIREMENTS Material specification requirements are to be used for initial qualification of materials. 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard
5、Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 MATERIAL 3.2.1 Composition Coolant shall be primarily monoethylene glycol (1.2 ethanediol) with no more than 10 % other glycols. 3.2.2 Specific Gravity 1.11 - 1.14 (ASTM D 1122) 3.2.3 Freezing Point, max - 37 C (ASTM D 1177/ASTM D 6660) Fre

8、s of corrosive water (preparation described in ASTM D 1384) and coolant concentrate. Prepare a 50 % mixture of each current Ford approved coolant in the same manner. Mix 100 mL of the diluted candidate coolant solution with 100 mL of each diluted Ford approved coolant solution in a 250 mL beaker. Co
9、ver and let stand 24 - 48 hours at room temperature in the absence of light. Those solutions which form a precipitate shall be tested in the Glassware Corrosion Test, para 3.3.1, with the same weight loss limits imposed. 3.3.3 Storage Stability The coolant shall form no permanent gelatinous precipit
10、ate when tested in the following manner: Put at least 60 mL of the coolant concentrate in a 100 mL polyethylene bottle and cap it snugly. Place in a circulating air oven at 65 +/- 2 C for 14 days. After removal from oven allow to cool to room temperature, and visually examine for presence of gelatin
11、ous precipitate. If precipitate is present, terminate test. If no precipitate is present dilute a 30 mL portion of the sample with an equal amount of corrosive water (preparation described in ASTM D 1384), and return to oven at 65 +/- 2 C for another 14 days. Check for precipitate at 2, 7, 10 and 14
12、 days. If precipitate is present, terminate test. At end of complete test, average weight loss of the 7 similar metal coupons shall not exc

Weight loss of any individual coupon in the 7 bundles shall not exceed 30 mg. 3.6.3 Fleet Test 3.6.3.1 Short Term Fleet Test (ASTM D 2847, modified) A minimum of 12 vehicles shall be used with all vehicles equipped with aluminum radiators and all engines equipped with aluminum wate
18、r pumps. However, some of the engines shall have aluminum cylinder heads, and some shall have cast iron cylinder heads. A minimum of 10 vehicles shall use the test coolant while the remaining 2 vehicles shall use a previously approved coolant. All coolant mixtures shall be 45 % coolant concentrate a
19、nd 55 % tap water. Before installing the test coolant, reverse flush the cooling system with water and drain as much as possible with the bottom radiator hose and engine block drain plugs removed. During the test period, check the condition of the coolant and cooling system at least every two months
20、. Record mileage, date, condition and appearance of coolant, amount of make-up coolant used, etc. If coolant must be drained for engine repairs, drain coolant into a clean container. Return the used coolant to the engine when repairs are completed and record amount of coolant used to top-off radiato
21、r. At least half of the test vehicles shall each accumulate 50,000 miles during a minimum period of nine months. 24、The following requirements must be met for coolant for Ford Parts and Service Division only: 3.8.1 Chemical and Physical Properties Specific chemical and physical properties are not specified in para 3.7, but an Engineering Quality Control Supplement will be issued to cover each approved material. T
25、he selected engineering approved source shall furnish appropriate chemical and physical properties along with the production tolerance limits that apply to the material(s) upon which approval was given. The agreed upon values and limits will be issued to Quality Control by the affected product engin
26、eering office. These values will then be used by Quality Control for ongoing quality verifications. The Quality Control Supplement is an integral requirement of this specification. If more than one source supplies material to this specification, a Quality Control Supplement will be issued for each s
27、pecific approved material. 3.8.2 Labeling Provisions of this specification are applicable when material is used according to labeling directions. The label(s) for the material(s) must comply with the Federal Hazardous Substances Act, all applicable regulations promulgated thereunder or under the Consumer Product Safety Act (see especially 16 CFR 1500.3(b) (12), 1500.3(c) (10), 1500.125 and 15
29、00.132) and all other applicable federal, state and local statutes, ordinances and regulations. Supplier shall furnish the affected product engineering office with the label(s). Supplier shall certify in writing to Ford Motor Company that the composition of his product has been examined, that the la
30、bel recommended is in compliance with the Federal Hazardous Substances Act, all applicable regulations promulgated thereunder or under the Consumer Product Safety Act, and all other applicable federal, state and local statutes, ordinances and regulations, and shall guarantee, in writing which contai
31、ns the name and address of Supplier and is signed by Supplier or an authorized agent of Supplier, that no product shipped or otherwise delivered by Supplier at any time to Ford Motor Company, or on its order, is, as of the date of such shipment or delivery, misbranded or banned within the meaning of
32、 the Federal Hazardous Substances Act (see Section 5(b) (2) thereof, and 16 CFR 1500.213). Completed Material Health and Safety Data Sheets and Hazardous Substance Data Sheets must be submitted by the supplier to the Ford Motor Company toxicologist. If applicable, supplier shall furnish a copy of th
33、e laboratory report wherein the product was evaluated under the procedures required by the Federal Hazardous Substances Act. Supplier must furnish detailed application instructions and specific usage information for container labels. This portion of the label information must be approved by the affe
34、cted product engineering office. If the label submitted by the supplier contains any advertising claims, suitable corroborative testing data must also be furnished. Such claims and data are encouraged. 3.8.3 Marking Containers and cartons must be marked with a code indicating source and compounding
35、date of the material. Supplier must furnish this code to the affected product engineering office. Container marking may be waived if approved in writing by the affected product engineering office. The test report data furnished by the supplier showing compliance with this specification shall give th
36、e specific test methods followed and shall give specific answers to generalized requirements. 3.8.4 Packaging The packaging of the material to which this specification applies shall conform with all applicable requirements of the Poison Prevention Packaging Act and regulations there under (see espec
