SCOPE This specification defines the performance requirements for aluminum road wheels. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally to be sp
3、ecified for aluminum wheels where uniform coverage, good corrosion protection, durability, and adequate appearance are necessary. Sections to be painted according to this specification as shown on Engineering Drawing. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppli
4、ers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.4 SYSTEM COMPONENTS All requirements are for actual finished parts. 3.4.1 Substrates As specified on the Engineering Drawing. 3.4.2 Cleaning The surface to be coated must be free fr
5、om oil or alkaline residues, fingerprints, rust, dirt, moisture, and other foreign materials. 3.4.3 Coating Material The quality required is that obtainable with best commercial practice to meet the performance requirements of this specification. Any suitable method of coating application may be use
6、d. 3.4.3.1 Coating System Coating must be sufficient to meet all performance requirements of this specification. Ford Engineering approved material. 3.4.3.4 Top Coat Dependent on Design
8、 requirements the following versions can be applied. 3.4.3.4.1 Color Coat One coat or Base Coat/Clear Coat. Use of primer is optional to obtain the required performance. 3.4.3.4.2 Clear Coat This should be a suitable clear coat capable of satisfying the resistance performance requirements of this sp
9、ecification. 3.5 FILM PROPERTIES 3.5.1 Color (FLTM BI 109-01) As specified on the Engineering Drawing. Shall match the Master Appearance Sample color panel. 3.5.2 Gloss (FLTM BI 110-01) As specified on the Engineering Drawing. Shall match the Master Appearance Sample color panel. 3.5.3 Initial Hardn
10、ess The coating shall be sufficiently cured at the time of packing to withstand normal handling and shipping without damage. 3.5.4 Appearance The finish shall bake out to a presentable, serviceable film showing no craters, pinholes, or mottling. It shall produce a smooth hard film, free from sagging
11、, dirt, and seed. Primer or 20 m Primer Surfacer (If required) Top Coat 40 m Color or Clear Coa. 3.6 RESISTANCE PROPERTIES 3.6.1 Paint Adhesion Grade 0 (FLTM BI 106-01, Method B) No chipping There shall be no flaking of Clear Coat from any substrate. 3.6.2 Water Resistance, min 240 h (FLTM BI 104-01)
13、 Prior to test apply cross hatch as described under FLTM BI 106-01, Method B to the test part. Expose to water immersion. No blistering, softening, dulling, color change or loss of gloss. 3.6.3 Adhesion after Water Resistance After a 24 h at 23 +/- 2 C recovery period, the adhesion of the coating sy
14、stem shall meet requirements of item 3.6.1. 3.6.4 Cass Salt Spray Resistance (FLTM BQ 105-01) Prior to test apply both a 50 mm scribe line also a cross hatch as described under FLTM BI 106-01, Method B to the test part. Expose to Cass test for 16 h (1 cycle). No blistering, spotting, softening, dull
15、ing, color change, loss of gloss. Indications of corrosion or creep more than 1 mm from the scribed line are not permitted. 3.6.5 Adhesion after Cass Salt Spray Resistance. After a 2 h at 23 +/- 2 C recovery period, the adhesion of the coating system shall meet requirements of item 3.6.1. 3.6.6 Solv
16、ent Resistance (FLTM BI 152-01) No blistering. Slight softening or dulling permitted. Note The test shall be conducted on suitable sections of the wheel. 17、ther Resistance 3.6.7.1 Natural, min AATCC Rating 4 (FLTM BI 160-01, 6 months Florida, 5 deg south, direct weathering inland) 3.6.7.2. Accelerated, min AATCC Rating 4 (SAE J1960) Radiant Exposure 400 kJ/m2 Note: Accelerated Weathering is only to be considered if for Engineering concurred special rea
18、sons no Florida results are available. Under such circumstances comparative testing only is allowed against materials of known Florida stability with identical chemical type of resin. In case of differences in the test results of Florida exposure and the accelerated weathering the results of the Flo
19、rida exposure shall prevail. After exposure in accordance with 3.6.7.1 and 3.6.7.2 washed but unpolished exposure wheels or sections shall show a minimum degree of dulling, change of color and distinctness of image when compared to an unexposed retained master. Only the slightest color change is per
20、mitted. These wheels or sections shall show no color change, or iridescence in excess of specified AATCC rating (AATCC Grey Scale for Evaluating Change in Color, 10 step). Gloss after exposure shall be comparable to unexposed retained control sample. The sample shall be completely free from evidence
21、 of cracking, checking, corrosion, blistering, and peeling. Yellowing of clear coats is a reason for rejection. Note: Prior to examination the exposed samples must be cleaned with approved soap solution. 5. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.1 Purchase departments will ensure that both materials defined in this specification and shipped to any one assembly plant will be produced by one supplier only.
