SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a caulking compound based on synthetic rubber which can be applied in an extruded (strip) form or in an unshaped form in two hardnes
、s grades. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for sealing purposes and to eliminate noise in cable openings, screw-fastening holes as well as screw held flanges. The material is applied to oiled, primed or painted metal. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION
、MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 COLOR Gray to white or according to Engineering drawing with additional suffix (see para 4.3). 3.3 SOLIDS 99 % min (FLTM BV 150-10) 3.4 DENSITY AT 20 C 1.
、6 - 1.9 kg/L (ASTM D 1475) 3.5 PENETRATION-HARDNESS GRADE (see para 4.2) 4 - 5 mm Test Method: Test apparatus as described in ASTM D 217, total weight force 1.5 N, 5 s time delay. The material under test is transferred into a container 75 mm in diameter, avoiding entrapment of air bubbles during fil
、ling. Fill the container up to the rim and condition for 16 h at room temperature prior to test. The results of tests on a min of 5 samples are to be determined in mm and must not deviate more than 10 % from the average value. 3.6 PAINT STAINING (FLTM BZ 150-11, Method A) No staining or any other de
、leterious effects on the painted surface. Test Method: 200 mm long strips of the test material are placed on panels (300 x 100 mm) oiled according to FLTM BZ 150-11, Method A , and pressed down lightly. The test specimens are then painted according to FLTM BI 103-02, Method C, and conditioned for 1
、h at room temperature. Following this, half of each specimen is masked and exposed in the Fluorescent Sunlamp Cabinet (FLTM BU 152-02) for 96 h. Evaluated for evidence of staining by comparing the exposed area of the specimen with the unexposed. ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION WSK-M4G329-A Copyri

、d a 50 mm diameter mandrel. 3.8 COLD RESISTANCE No breaking, no cracking Test Method: a) Expose 200 x 20 x 6 mm strips of material under test and a 50mm diameter mandrel for 4 h at - 40 +/- 1 C. b) While still in the cold box bend each specimen through an angle of 180 deg 2 s around the mandrel. 3.9
、 WATER RESISTANCE The material must not become soluble or show any loss of cohesion. Test Method: The material shall be kneaded between the fingers under running tap water for 1 minute at room temperature. 3.10 ADHESION STRENGTH The test specimen must when placed in an upside down position adhere to
、 the test panels for 30 s. Test Method: A test specimen is placed on a grease free body steel panel 300 x 100 mm in size without applying any pressure. After a storage time of 5 minutes at room temperature the panel is turned upside down so that the strip is held only by means of its own adhesion st
、rength. 3.11 FORM STABILITY The extensibility of the material shall constitute the measure of its form stability. 3.11.1 Extensibility as Received 10 % max 3.11.2 Extensibility After Aging (para. 3.7) 15 % max Test Method: A 250 mm long section of the caulking strip on its release foil is cut out. T
、he caulking strip is then drawn off from the release foil at an angle of approximately 135 deg at a speed of approximately 500 mm/s. The length of the specimen strip so separated from the release foil shall then be measured to an accuracy of 1 mm. The increase in length is the extensibility. 3.12 CL
、EANING The material shall be easily removed. Test Method: Apply a strip of caulking compound with finger pressure to freshly enameled panels (prepared according to FLTM BI 103-02, Method C, using currently released light colored production paint). Condition for 1 h at room temperature. Remove materi

ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATION WSK-M4G329-A Copyright 2011, Ford Global Technologies, LLC Page 3 of 4 3.13 SALT SPRAY RESISTANCE The material shall not become brittle or disintegrate. Test Method: a) Apply a 300 x 20 x 2 mm
、strip of caulking compound between two 300 x 40 mm angle body steel panels (prepared according to FLTM BZ 150-11, Method A). The steel panels are angled in 15 x 25 mm with 300 x 15 mm areas. Screw both parts together with three M 5 X 20 mm in 100 mm distance with 5 Nm using a torque wrench. b) Phosp
