2、tomatic choke and carburetor linkage cleaner.2. APPLICATIONThis specification was released originally for material used to dissolveand remove deposits of varnish, grease and gum. This specification isnot intended to limit the automatic choke and carburetor linkage cleanerto any specific material or
3、material system, but rather defines theperformance of the entire system.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 QUALITY SYSTEM REQUIREMENTSMaterial suppliers and part producers must conform to QualitySystem Requirements, QS-9000. Material specification requirementsare to be used for initial qualification of materials. A
4、 ControlPlan for ongoing production verification is required. This planmust be reviewed and approved by the relevant Ford Materialsactivity and/or Ford Supplier Technical Assistance (STA) prior toproduction parts submission. Appropriate statistical tools must beused to analyze process/product data a
5、nd assure consistentprocessing of the materials.Part producers using this material in their products, must use Fordapproved materials and must conform to a process control plan whichhas been approved by STA and/or the relevant Materials Activity.3.2 MASS SPECTROSCOPYFord Motor Company, at its option
6、, may conduct mass spectroscopyand/or other analysis of material/parts supplied to thisspecification. The analyses established for initial approval shallconstitute the reference standard and shall be kept on file at thedesignated material laboratory. All samples shall produce the sameanalyses that c
7、orrespond to the reference standard when testedunder the same conditions.ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONWSS-M14P10-BWP 3948-b Page 2 of 43.3 CONDITIONING AND TEST CONDITIONSAll test values indicated herein are based on material conditionedin a controlled atmosphere of 23 +/- 2 C and 50 +/- 5 % re
8、lativehumidity for not less than 24 h prior to testing and tested underthe same conditions unless otherwise specified.3.4 Shall be of such composition that it meets all the requirementsdescribed in this specification and shall be in a form capable ofbeing used as packaged.3.5 Must dissolve and remov
9、e deposits of varnish, gum and greas e fromthe automatic choke and carburetor linkage of an automotive enginewithout any detrimental effect upon engine components.3.6 Shall not have any detrimental effects on the metal, plastic,rubber or gasket material of the carburetor system.3.7 Provisions of thi
10、s specification are applicable when the cleaner isused according to labeling directions, unless other wise stated.Precautionary notes, such as the detrimental effect on paintedsurfaces, etc., involved in the use of the material should beclearly stated on the product label.3.8 Must be reasonably safe
11、 to apply and must meet all federal, stateand local regulations. The material must be formulated to minimizehealth hazards to the individual due to the toxic or otherwiseinjurious ingredients.3.9 Must be capable of storage without any detrimental effect for anextended period of time. Supplier shall
12、furnish all necessaryinformation on types of material required for packaging and on thestorage life of the material in each of the product packagessupplied. For any particular size package of container for theproduct, the supplier shall furnish the information on safe storagepractice and recommendat
13、ions as to max and min ambient temperaturesand direct sun load conditions at which the product may be storedwithout any adverse effect. For all aerosol containers, thesupplier shall furnish all pertinent information on pressures andpropellants an any precautions involved in storing, handling anduse.
14、3.10 CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIESSpecific chemical and physical properties are not specified herein,but an Engineering Quality Control Supplement will be issued tocover each approved material. The selected engineering approvedsource shall furnish appropriate chemical and physical propertiesalong
15、 with the production tolerance limits that apply to thematerial(s) upon which approval was given. The agreed upon valuesand limits will be issued to Quality Control by the affectedproduct engineering office. These values will then be used byQuality Control for ongoing quality verifications. The Qual
16、ityControl Supplement is an integral requirement of thisspecification. 17、 Provisions of the specification are applicable whenmaterial is used according to labeling directions. Anyprecautions involved in the use of the material must beclearly stated on the product label.3.11.2 The label(s) for the material(s) must comply to the FederalHazardous Substances Act and all othe
18、r provisions under theConsumer Product Safety Commission and all other applicablefederal, state and local regulations. Supplier shallfurnish the affected product engineering office with thelabel(s).3.11.3 Supplier shall furnish certification that the compositionof his product has been examined and t
19、hat the labelrecommended is in compliance with the Federal HazardousSubstances Act and all other provisions under the ConsumerProduct Safety Commission. Completed Material Health andSafety Data Sheets and Hazardous Substances Data Sheetsmust be submitted by the supplier to the Ford Motor Companytoxi
20、cologist.3.11.4 If applicable, supplier shall furnish a copy of thelaboratory report wherein the product was evaluated underthe procedures required by the Federal Hazardous substancesAct.3.11.5 Supplier must furnish detailed application instructions andspecific usage information for container labels

Thisportion of the label information must be approved by theaffected product engineering office.3.11.6 If the label submitted by the supplier contains anyadvertising claims, suitable corroborative testing datamust also be furnished. Such claims and data areencouraged.3.12 MARKINGContainer and cart
22、ons must be marked with a code indicating sourceand compounding date of the material. Supplier must furnish thiscode to the affected product engineering office. Container markingmay be waived if approved in writing by the affected productengineering office.3.13 The test report data furnished by the
23、supplier showing compliancewith this specification shall give the specific test methodsfollowed and shall give specific answers to the generalizedrequirements.3.14 Generally accepted test methods (American Society for Testing andMaterials, Society of Automotive Engineers and Ford Laboratory TestMeth

25、s shallbe specified on the Engineering drawing, Engineering partsspecification and/or performance specification. All critical areaswith respect to these properties shall be clearly designated on theengineering drawing.3.14 SUPPLIERS RESPONSIBILITYAll materials supplied to this specification must be
26、equivalent inall characteristics to the material upon which approval wasoriginally granted.Prior to making any change in the properties, composition,construction, color, processing or labeling of the materialoriginally approved under this specification, whether or not suchchanges affect the material
27、s ability to meet the specificationrequirements, the Supplier shall notify Purchasing, Toxicology andthe affected Materials Engineering activity of the proposed changesand obtain the written approval of the Materials Engineeringactivity. Test data, test samples and a new code identification areto be
28、 submitted with the request.Substance restrictions imposed by law, regulations or Ford, applyto the materials addressed by this document. The regulations aredefined in Engineering Materials Specification WSS-M99P9999-A1.4. APPROVAL OF MATERIALSMaterials defined by this specification must have prior
29、approval by theresponsible Materials Engineering activity. Suppliers desiring approvalof their materials shall first obtain an expression of interest from theaffected Purchasing, Design and Materials Engineering activity. Uponrequest, the Supplier shall submit to the affected Materials Engineeringac
30、tivity a completed copy of their laboratory test reports, signed by aqualified and authorized representative of the test facility,demonstrating full compliance with all the requirements of thisspecification (test results, not nominal values), the materialdesignation and code number, and test specime
31、ns for Ford evaluation.Fords engineering approval of a material will be based on itsperformance to this specification and on an assessment of suitabilityfor intended processes and/or applications. Upon approval, the materialwill be added to the Engineering Material Approved Source List.5. GENERAL IN
32、FORMATIONThe information given below is provided for clarification and assistancein meeting the requirements of this specification.5.1 Comparative performance data ratings utilizing the requirementsoutlined above, comparing the proposed material(s) to presentlymarketed Ford Motor Company products, are encouraged.
